Yes, I want to replicate my back-up data to a network drive - which actually could be at another location, as long as I have IP address and proper credentials.

I understand that if I want to retreive that backup info, I have to copy it back on a local drive (USB).

The real question is how to access that nework drive. Those Western digital drives use Mionet interface.

Could Norton Ghost 14 access those drives? They are very common.

Hi,

Can  I backup/retreive FTP files to a Western Digital My Book World Edition  network storage?

Those drives can be remote accessed using their stripdown version of Mionet that they call  WD Anywhere Access.

That would be nice, since those drives are cheap, available at most Costco stores.

I found this article in Wester Digital Knowledge Base to map the WD drive without using the WD Anywhere Access :

Can a WD My Book World Edition hard drive be used without using WD Anywhere Access?

Once you map that drive as network drive, you can create Norton Ghost backups on it. I think this is what you want.

Exactly, those are network drives; they are not attached to a computer. We can access the drive either by using Western Digital software or typing IP address of the drive and logon to that drive.  Sp far, I don't think the drives have an FTP protocol. I have to research more.

If I understood correctly, you want to backup your data stored on a FTP server. Norton Ghost 14.0 can create an offsite copy of your data backup to a FTP server but you cannot backup your data from a FTP server to a hard drive.
