Version 22.2.9.11 Default scan option

Just installed 22.22.9.11, UK based. Default option for scan (Quick, Full, Smart) not available. No apparent differences from 22.22.8.15. Version number updated to 22.22.9.11 internally in Norton 360 & also in Programs & Features.

peterweb  - you are no doubt like me - Software Updater is not necessary - I want any software to provide its own updates, do these particular software apps interfere & tell us we need a Norton update? - NO. Why dont' Norton just provide us with items that are purely to do with Norton Security & make efforts to get their own house in order. Did open Software Update once to see what it was about, it then, without any interaction from me, started to install a Windows item, cancelled it but it did not cancel & installed. Every update I'd had from Microsoft updates did not require it updating, so why did Norton reckon they better. Done a Windows system restore but that recorded that could not be reversed, I assume that was because it was not an actual Windows process doing the update. Norton you to be ok till a year or two ago when they started to poke their noses into non-Norton items like browser files, Windows Temp Files, Disk optimization etc. which are already carried by those particular methods anyway.

Norton seemed to following Microsoft & Windows Updates. Someone comes up with an idea & it is subsequently released as an update. But this same people do not actually use the product in real life so do not know of the issues the being caused. Years ago, was on chat to support, to replicate issue told person I was chatting to, to open their version to see the problem. 'We don't use Norton' was the response, how can someone not actually using the product offer support? After this latest update, Norton Task Notifications don't work, once again, evidently this release was not checked before release in the real world.

Well if Norton is going to throttle some features for some subscribers and release all features and options for others then they should not make an announcement of a new version until all features are available to all users. By the posts I have read Norton is really upsetting a lot of subscribers. Makes you wonder if one should think about using another security software provider. When a company announces a new and approved version we expect it to work and not keep us guessing where are these new features their talking about because I don't see them. (online banking protection, default scan option, new version status using help) Not here.

The notes at the bottom of the Product Announcement for this update note....

Please note:

  • Some of the features are being throttled

So as the telemetry comes into Norton on how the new feature is behaving, it will get rolled out to more users. I still do not have the Software Updater feature from the last major update. (not that I want it).

I have read new info on Norton's new version 22.22.9.11 and I still don't have a default scan option in settings. Every time Norton comes out with a new version something is missing and new options that are supposed to be there are not. I wish Norton's programmers would ask the customer what they want and need and stop changing and removing options that the consumer would like left alone. Thanks for removing the online banking protection icon which Norton felt no one needed. Still don't see any online banking in safe web either. Nothing in settings either.

Managed today to get original 22.22.8.15 back, not gone to 22.22.9.11 yet. Previously was using what was then current 22.22.8.15 downloader installation file obtained from DOWNLOAD button in my Norton account, that was 3 days ago. Downloaded again from same source, done full remove again, installed from new N360Downloader, as if by magic, the previous 22.22.8.15 has the yellow SMART SCAN button & the two Message icons restored, these were the ones 'missing' from previous version. Conclusion can only be the previous 360 Downloader was for something other than the correct version although, what-ever it related & installed was NOT 22.22.8.15, that was what the version number recorded after a remove & reinstall & 3 full remove & installs. Thanks Norton. Give it a couple of days, then update to 22.22.9.11 & see if the default scan options setting is available as per Product Updates Blog.

Tried to solve by Remove & Reinstall. Default download was version 22.22.8 15 (previous version prior to update). Smart Scan completely gone, used to show as default on main page, default now back as default for quick scan (suits me). Also, message box completely gone on top bar & in MY Norton. Done complete remove & reinstalled, came up once again 22.22.8.15 but, once again missing the above that were in the old previously installed version of 8.15 so the version from Norton is different from that I had before issues appeared following install of 9.11. Subsequently updated to 9.11, identical to the 8.15 reinstalled today 3 times with Smart Scan not available at all, likewise Messages. What is going on? Even tried manual remove Norton completely, installed again, (in effect should have been a full clean install) version 22.22.8.15, then updated to 22.22.9.11, still all as above, ultimately, appear to have gone backwards a few versions before Smart Scan & Messages appeared. Right clicking on system tray icon & Task bar icon do not show neither of the missing modules. Thought perhaps me or computer done something wrong but appears to be a NORTON issue AGAIN, just can't comprehend how the recent downloaded version of 22.22.8.15 is different to previously installed version & why 22.22.9.11 appears to be same as this version. Did notice when updating to 9.11, taskbar icon only takes a few seconds to appear on restart, normally, with an update used to take a good minute whist actually installing update.

Update, after installing new & updates, as normal, leave for 10 minutes or so until no more disc activity, with 9.11, then ran manual update a couple of times, nothing available. Tried again few minutes ago, patch available (don't know where that had been hiding), no record in history what it was. On restart, no difference to anything. Used to get confirmation NGC update but this seems to be part of version update, Engine/NGC/installer.

Hello my name is Don . I am having the same problem as you on my desk top and on my wife's laptop and the 22.22.9.11 update U.S. based is also generating and leaving DAT temporary files that cannot be cleaned from the Windows Temp Folder with Disk Cleanup or Storage Sense. The only way to delete them to keep them from building up is to manually delete them from C:windows/Temp or use something like CCleaner. What is the point of an update if nothing is updated. Se my discussion here https://community.norton.com/en/forums/temporary-dat-files-being-generated .

Also noticed, when closing Norton, next open takes you to last selected option tab (Security, Internet Security, Back-Up, Performance, My Norton), before, a new open would default to Security tab so something has changed.
