This week I allowed N360 on two Vista machines to move from earlier versions to the current one, but ever since then now I've been getting repeated messages from Windows Defender that it's been turned off. Moreover, it's no longer automatically downloading new definitions or running scheduled scans. Installation of earlier versions of N360 used to turn WD off, but then I was always able to turn it back on without complications.
Note that this is the old, "anti-malware" version of Windows Defender that doesn't conflict with AV software, as opposed to the new WD that tries to compete with Norton in the AV space. Using Norton version 22, is there a way to get Vista Windows Defender to turn on and stay on?
Please, I'm not interested in arguments for keeping Windows Defender disabled. I only wish to know whether this functionality has been lost or can be regained (and how) under the current Norton version. I find WD's alerts, about programs that want to install drivers or modify the Hosts file, to be informative and useful and I would rather keep it while at the same time using the latest N360.
Thank you.
