Version 24 has removed local backup

I feel Norton is doing what is best for them and not the customer in some instances.

Thanks. That’s what I thought. I have reverted back to version 22 to keep things as is. So far, I have not been “upgraded” again, but I know it is a matter of time.

Folks, I found the previous version of Norton 360 here Download older versions of Norton 360 Premium for Windows - FileHippo.com. I reinstalled it and I am back to what I paid for. We pay upwards of $150 per year and they remove functionality midstream, which is known as a bait and switch. This is actually fraudulent business practices, so I have contacted the writers of the Anitvirus reviews for PCMAG and Tomsguide. They have informed me they are going to contact Norton to find out what is going on. I suggest we all send an email to these writers across the board and start an internet campaign to get Norton to fix this.

Notice: I’m now retracting my understanding posted [here]

You are not alone. I have 4 PC’s that I backed up and now have to change software and replace all the backups. I also get constant warnings of errors where they try to get me to buy Norton Utilities.I am not renewing.

Have to agree with your comment regarding restoration of files from Cloud.
Earlier this year, a repair was carried out on my PC (replaced HDD) but recovering files from Cloud was a disaster.
Firstly, some files are missing, & Secondly some of those which were recovered (used on MS Offdice 2016 XL ) were found to be ‘read only.’ Despite attempts to reinstate, MS Office message ‘cannot be changed.’
Had 2 lengthy chats with Norton agents without success, and their solution was to engage their “techs” at my expense.
Currently still in same square, so considering obtaining an external drive, and leaving NORTON.
Been with them 20 years, but finding they are keen to market ‘add ons’ in preference to sorting out their existing system.
N B. The HDD was destroyed by repairer, rather than returned…

I have used Norton for over 30 years, beginning with floppies. This is the FIRST time I will have to seek other software. Removing a feature as important as this Backup to external drive is stupid. I have never backed to a cloud and don’t plan to now.

Hi , Any further info on the inability to back up to an external drive please or any info from Norton about what they intend to do.
One last point please , how do I revert to the previous version ?
Thanking you for your considerable involvement.

As far as Norton, rumor has it they know of this, but no definitive answer as to what they are doing. To revert, I found what I needed on FileHoppo.com. I have Norton 360 Premium, but I think your license will set you properly. They have version 22.17.0.183. As soon as you install, run Liveupdate to gain the latest builds. I have reverted all of my PCs back and have not had the upgrade to 24 since…so far.

Sadly all the download links on there point to norton page

if you want to try v22.x
try → norton.com/cspn360
(DSP-N360-ESD-22.23.10.10-EN.exe)

Note: LiveUpdate may pull v24 again

I found 22 here: Download Norton Antivirus 22.20.5.39 for Windows | Uptodown.com

I have used this one previously: Download Norton 360 20.2.0.19 for Windows - OldVersion.com

The second one is version 20, but it does the job. You will have to live update until it updates completely.

I agree with Mindwalker, this is unacceptable! I have already been shopping for new software after many years of using Norton. Whom ever came up with idea should be sent to a public relations seminar. So, I suggest you make a few corrections. This icloud idea seems like a deal to sell more storage.

You said it well, I have had the same problem.

I agree with you! Taking away this capability is pathic and well worthy of loosing my long time subscription.

I have raised a support case on Oct 28 where I was advised that this capability will be restored, however without any commitment to when.

Extremely angry and very disappointed!

Agree with this thread. You did not do your due- diligence. The local backup feature was a major reason for several of my clients for purchasing Norton. I will be forced to go back to them and reload the old version, time after time, until you get this fixed. This will be a major hit to my business of supporting my clients. I don’t sell your software and support, I represented the best Internet / home security software on the market(Norton), until you shot us all in the foot with this move. You use to think about your clients well being, now your going the billionaires direction of “what can we do to squeeze more money out of our sucker clients”. Wrong move that is going to cost you. Sorry to see this cause another problem on a world that is getting inundated with more tragically wrong decisions base on making more money.

Hi. New to the forum and not very tech-savvy. Two days ago I downloaded an update to the virus and spyware definitions, as they call it, which I do just about every week. This week there was an update to the program itself, version 24.10.9535.1052. It completely f****d (pardon the language) my PC to the point where Windows wouldn’t start and automatic repair mode could not fix the issue. I contacted Norton support who wanted no part of it because the problem was Windows although they offered to transfer me to their ‘superior’ support team provided I paid a fee. I had some options when automatic repair mode didn’t work so I rolled back to the latest restore point which was just before the Norton update was installed. It removed the update and all is now fine again. Current version is 22.24.8.36. Another call to Norton support got nowhere. I was hoping they would accept that their update was to blame and do something about it. They are not interested in ‘a Windows problem’. I’m not sure I want the program update if the backup function has been changed as I also do not want to backup to the cloud. Is it possible to update the virus and spyware definitions but not the program? From other posts on here it seems it’s possible but the only option I have is to run the whole update.

Unfortunately, there is no way to separate virus definitions from product updates. As I stated above, I downloaded a previous version and left Liveupdate on. So far, I have not seen it upgrade again but that does not mean it won’t come back.
