Thanks for this tip, Robert. Understand You’ve to click the synchronization symbol after inserting again the local drive ( not NAS only, but USB drives, too) with an initial backup ?

You DO NOT have to press the synchronization button for NAS assuming your NAS and Device are on the same network with the drive available, I am not using USB but would guess YES You’ve to click the synchronization symbol after inserting again the local drive.
I am only using NAS
Synchronisation is Automatic per settings as noted below
You can force a Sync by pressing the button at any time as you have no schedule to know when a sync will happen.
From my experience so far system performance is not greatly impacted.
When a file is backed up, does it replace the last version/overwrite it or does it just make a new version so that if need be, one can recover the older version?
Hello @ter_bord
Norton Cloud Backup is designed to create copies (backups) of your files, not to act as a real-time mirror where changes on one device are instantly reflected on the other.
Note: with Automatic Sync…if you make x changes to a file between sync…only change at sync is backed up.
Note: an old version may still be on your machine. If you for example…copy a letter and make changes to that copy and then save that copy with changes…the original remains on your device and may be with backed up files.
Note: when a file is backed up at sync and then at some point you delete that file from your machine…you can presumably restore the backed up file to your machine.
Automatically sync runs every 24 hours. You may manually call Sync.
Maybe, think of Norton Cloud Backup as supplement to your primary/secondary backup solutions.
The 3-2-1 Backup Rule
===============================================
Automatically sync (as per Norton) backs up files every 24 hours. Norton has not shared whether 24 hour cycle is machine up time or 24 hour clock time.
User may manually run sync, as needed.
I imagine at the automatic sync time…whatever changes are at that time.

Norton Cloud Backup feature within Norton 360, is not a full system image backup.
Norton Cloud Backup functions as a file and folder backup, allowing you to selectively choose which specific files and folders to back up to the cloud, rather than capturing an entire snapshot of your entire system like a traditional system image backup would do.
Norton Cloud Backup lets you pick which files and folders to back up, giving you more control over what data is stored in the cloud.
While you can restore individual files from a Norton backup, you cannot use it to completely restore your entire operating system to a previous state like a system image backup would allow.
=======================================================
Note: Norton 360 cloud backup storage (e.g., 50 GB) is shared among all the devices covered by your subscription, allowing you to back up files from any of them using the same storage space. Norton Cloud Backup storage capacity (e.g., 50 GB) is allocated to your Norton account/subscription, not to individual devices. You can back up files from any of the devices covered by your Norton subscription to the shared cloud storage. If you have a 50 GB storage plan, all devices covered by your Norton plan will share that 50 GB for backups.

Have you created a Windows Recovery Drive?
Caveat: I’ve not scrutinized my Norton backup sets

Hello @ter_bord
as test:
created TEST FILE ONE →
call Sync → made change to TEST FILE ONE →
call Sync against TEST FILE ONE →
Correct, it replaces/overwrites to the actual version when You click the sync symbol (that one with the two rotating pointers). This works very fast as only revised or new files/folders will be added by cancelling the previous version.
If You wish to save the previous version You’ ve to run a new backup which is quite time and memory space consuming.
Pls note, I checked this with a local drive (USB stick) as I’m not interested in cloud backup.
Unfortunately Norton has eliminated the little red hook on the right bottom corner of the systray symbol reminding You from time to time to make a backup.

Hello @ter_bord
Hello @ter_bord
Norton is NOT Microsoft who has the ability to provide true cloud backup. So who are they using for their host? I would say most people that want to keep their data “private” won’t use the cloud as a solution and instead will find a way to backup locally to a HD/SSD or home Network device. This will put me on the list to dump Norton if they don’t fix this ASAP!
fix what?
The backups stored in the Norton Cloud are encrypted and can only be decrypted by access to the Norton Account that created the backup. So even if there were a data breach on the servers, there would only be gibberish available to the hackers.
This issue is not hackers. This issue is when the connection hiccups and you lose the backups altogether, which has happened with Norton before. Are they going to reimburse you for the loss? I don’t think so.
Network drive backups have been restored but they did not restore control over when you can do backups. It is only automated every 24 hours, which is still unacceptable IMO. Norton went total stupid with this version. As a result, I am still on version 22 found here. You can revert back to get the proper functionality back. So far, I have not been forced to re-upgrade:
https://www.norton.com/cspn360
Automatically sync every 24 hours or manual Synchronize.
You want a scheduler?
I want the same functionality that version 22 provided where I can set the schedule when the backups occur, backup to my server, and be able to monitor all of the administrative tasks to ensure everything is working and up to date.
Now Norton has rolled out the mobile version and right out of the gate, it has issues. I am getting “VPN setup required” notification every 60 damn seconds. Norton has become garbage. I started a separate topic for that issue.
