I have a PC that is in a remote location and connects to the web through a phone modem. I have IS 20.4 loaded on a Win 7 x64 PC. I FTP dowloaded the virus definition file _v5i64.exe to a thumb drive from another PC on the net and then tried to install it on my remote machine. When I double click the exe file, I am getting a fail due to unable to read iuconfig.xml from the registry.

Make sure your using the file from this page here and not for the antivirus corporate edition.
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=savce
It's confusing because the file you need is actually listed on the "Endpoint Protection" page.

Dave,
Thanks for the reply....and Yes, I have the "Endpoint file". In fact, I have three of them with different dates and none have installed.
Are there instructions on how to use the exe file to update the definitions?
I read that I can Extract files from the exe and copy them into the Norton directory. Will this work?
I also read about the JDB file. It seems its for business versions and not home use. Correct?
Here is the Error pop-up message:
Intelligent Updater session complete.
All Updates failed to install on the machine. For more details about the
processing, please check the log file "Log.IntelligentUpdater.txt"
created in the user's temporary directory.
Checking the log file said it can't open the iuconfig.xml from the registry.

I wouldn't know about the error but the update is compatible with your product.
It says right on it:
Supports the following versions of Symantec antivirus software:
Norton AntiVirus / Norton Internet Security (later than 2012) Norton AntiVirus / Norton Internet Security 2008/2009/2010/2011/2012 Norton 360 (later than 6.0) Norton 360 version 2.0/3.0/4.0/5.0/6.0
I always thought it was silly how it says "later than 2012" and then on the next line says 2009-2012.
I have not used it in a long time. I also don't have the files iuconfig.xml or luconfig.xml
I'm guessing it may be a typo because then it would be "Live Update config.xml"
If thats the case it would be unneeded because Norton products do not use the seperate live update program anymore.
Do the logs show that it installed the definitions?
