Virus: infostealer.gampass

Hello

A few hours ago, Norton 360 popped up with a message saying something like me having to restart my computer to remove a virus detected "infostealer.gampass."  So obviously I restarted my pc.  I thought maybe when I was at startup after restarting a message would have come up to notify me that it had been successfully removed.  I'm going crazy trying to figure out if it's been removed.  I'm not a real techy person, so bear with me. I ran liveupdate and all scans to try and find it.  I have come up with no risks, viruses, spyware, etc. to be found.  So is this bad guy really gone or can he still be lurking around?  Should I take steps further and download malwarebytes anti-malware (since this risk is labeled as malware) or do something along those lines, or should I just be okay?  I read up on it, it's said to be a low-risk threat, but I sure don't like the name and am not convinced he's a goner.  Help..advice would be greaty appreciated.  Thanks, Jen.

Also, 2 icons have popped up on my desktop named "desktop."  When you go to open them, they open up in word.

The first reads "
[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21799

The second reads "

[.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21769
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-183
[LocalizedFileNames]
Notepad.lnk=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-22051

any idea why all of a sudden these are now on my desktop and are of a transparent kind of icon? Also, that icon happens to be in my documents as well (only 1 though).  It is filed as a "configuration settings" icon that hasn't been modified for months.  Thank you very, very much!
