I was recently inundated with the trojan.vundo! ACKKK! and despite my best efforts have not been able to resolve my problem by getting my computer clean and have also not been able to turn on my Security center which it disabled. I have run Malwarebytes' anti malware which removed the trojan, ad-aware, which took off a worm, and AVG-Free which didn't pick up anything. I tried removing AVG and reinstalling it to fix the security problem, but now I am not able to install AVG as my internet connection was on the fritz. Instead I installed Norton Anti-virus 2010 and ran it which showed a clean scan except for a few tracking cookies. I have tried going into the services tab to see if I can manually turn the security center on, but so far have been unable to. Under services it states that my NT LM Security support has stopped but that my Security Accounts Manager is running. When I go to control panel>security center this is the message I get:
" The Security Center is currently unavailable because the Security Center service has not started or was stopped. Please close this window, restart the computer (or start the Security Center service), and then open the Security Center again."
I've tried everything I know to try to get it going again but need some help!!!
I have three questions:
1. Does anyone know how to turn Windows security center back on?
2. Is there any other scanner program I should use to make sure I am completely rid of the virus?
3. Is it okay for me to delete the items that are quarantined in Malwarebytes or should I just leave them in quarantine as they are no longer runner and not hurting anything.
I have a IBM thinkpad Lenovo T60 (unfortunately) with windows XP.
If anyone could help that would be wonderful! Thanks guys!
