OK, thanks for your reply. I’m relieved
Just to be sure, I would also recommend booting your system into Safe Mode and running another scan. Thanks!
Why not Upgrade to N.I.S. 2008 or wait until September 2008 when N.I.S. 2009 will be Released?
Hi,
@Tony_Weiss:
I've just scanned in safe mode, no virus detected :p (well I stopped the scan after the first step (scanning the most commun infected area) because a fullscan of my PC will take 2 days :p)
@Floating_Red:
I had my Norton Internet Security on a CD with my Gigabyte motherboard, and after the free 6 months, I've just bought for about 40euro one year of additionnal protection. I didnt search about NIS2008. Can I upgrade now to NIS 2008 with a discount ? or I have to buy it at full price ?
Hi,
I did a quick scan today with my Norton Internet Security 2007, and I saw bellow the "scaning common infected area" message a file named "c:\faux virus\carny ride.exe", The problem is that the scan did not detect a virus, and the folder doesnt exist it seems (I have activated the view of hidden files).
I was wandering if the files that apprears bellow the "scaning common infected area" are real files on my PC or only possible risks ?
Thanks :)
Hi Kamui,
Check the sticky thread at the top titled "Norton Internet Security Support - Top Issues", there you will find a paragragh and a link to the FREE update.

That is entirely up to you. I would recommend setting aside some time for a Full Scan of your PC in Safe Mode to eliminate all possible threats. 2 days of computer downtime is certainly better than massive data loss resulting from an infection.
When was the last time you did a Full System Scan? I would suggest you do one now.
I would highly suggest that you Run Full System Scan at least twice-a-week and that you Run LiveUpdate every-few-hours.
Hi,
Thanks for the link for the NIS 2008 update, I will try that now.
About liveupdate, I already activated automatic updates.
I will also try this night to do a fullscan of my PC (it wont take 2 days :p perhaps 10 hours or a little more, I have about 1.75 tera of data). I'll do that in safe mode and with the internet connexion off.
Bye.
I have the same problem. Scans hit C:\fauxvirus\carny_ride.exe and then stop. Searches with Windows Explorer and at the command prompt come up empty even when searching system and hidden files. Other AV and anti-spy products fail to report it. Not seeing anything under Task Manager which seem to be it. Some forums are saying it is a rootkit or haxdoor. Some say it is a bug in Norton and doesn't really exist.
Tried scanning for it in Safe mode as well.

It appears that you have posted this issue to two separate threads. Please only post your problem to one thread, as this will avoid confusion. Thanks!
