virus or windows crash???

Hey all,

I am running NIS2009, ver 16.5.0.135 on Win Vista32. I also run Malewarebytes anti malware, and superantispyware. My system is patched with latest updates from microsoft too.

Last night while downloading an update for superantispyware, the screen became corrupted, with any icon/window/taskbar/etc part with the cursor over it becoming browned out, as in no words or image shwoing, just brown boxes. I am on dial up so I disconnected from the internet bu pulling out the phone cord  as I couldn't see any dialog boxes to do so from the screen.  After I disconnected some of the dialog boxes would show info for about one second before 'refreshing' back into brown. I tried running a norton full scan but the pc crashed about 1 min into the scan. when the system rebooted I went into safe mode, ran a full scan, ran malwarebytes scan and superantispyware scans and all came out clean. I rebooted back into normal mode and looked at the logs in the norton history and saw that the time when I had the problem I had about 5 info notifications about unused port blocking has blocked communications. Also of note was that my screen resolution was cahnged upon normal reboot, icon size was changed, and random little things too.

So, was this a software glitch or ???

I know I am probably forgetting info here, and that I may have added too much, so thank in advance for any help...
