VPN and smart homes

Detailed description:
VPN not activated on my windows 11 laptop currently. Have wondered whether I could activate it and not interfere with my smart home setup. My fear is that any interference or resultant change in the BThub data settings could result in the smart home not working. The smart home consists of security, cameras, heating and lighting accessed from our phones and switch pads.
Can anyone provide me a view on whether this is a risk or something I should not be concerned about.
