VPN disables printing

Issue abstract: ping & printing work with VPN off, don’t with VPN on

Detailed description: No problems with Comcast. Changed to Brightspeed network equipment. Now, with Norton VPN off, can ping the printer, and print documents. With VPN on, get “General failure” message when ping printer, documents don’t print. Ping works for addresses starting with 192.168 that appear in ipconfig response, but I think they are loop-back. Have enabled split tunneling for ping and print executables, but that didn’t help. Have read through and tried steps in a Norton FAQ on this issue, but did not help.

Product & version number:
Norton™ 360 with LifeLock™ Advantage
ver 24.12.9725 (build 24.12.9725.903)

OS details: Windows 11

What is the error message you are seeing?
General failure for ping.
Document doesn’t print for print.

If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:

In a sense you partially answered the issue of why only local pings are allowed. The change to Bright Speed network ISP and their equipment would be the logical place to start. Depending on the device you are using it could be a modem/wifi combo or you could be using their device with a personal router. Does your Bright Speed device have its own VPN built in? Please check for that and disable it, reboot the device and recheck for the ping / printing issues persisting.
