Subject line says it all, 1) why does the VPN slow my connection and is there a workaround/fix? Other brands claim to not slow traffic. 2) Why can’t we set specific trusted websites to not use VPN (due to slow connectivity)? Other brands claim to have this feature.
TIA!
norton has a major bug in there vpn in norton 360 and safecam and also auto start but they now it and they is sending
it all out in hotfix when it is ready plus about 10 other miner bugs
Thanks for the encouragement, but I’ll believe it when I see it. I’m a long time user and it’s been this way forever! If no fix comes through before renewal then I’ll move on to other providers.
A VPN does not block or filter any web content. It is the website you are trying to access that is probably blocking access from known VPN IP addresses. This is done for copywrite, legal or political reasons. There is nothing a VPN provider can or should do to bypass the site’s protection for its content.
Here is a How to Geek article on this.
Agreed, it’s the website, not the VPN blocking access. It is the Norton VPN slowing my speed.
Why do I have to turn the entire VPN off to visit my banking site? If I fail to turn it back on then there is nothing to protect me as I continue to surf.
Why can’t there be a setting to allow access (tunnel) to a specific website(s) of my choosing?
Thanks.
How much is the VPN slowing your connection? There have been some users reporting severe slowdowns, and we have not been able to find the reason for that. Most users only experience the ‘minor’ slowdowns caused by the overhead of encrypting and decrypting your data as it leaves and returns to your computer.
Other VPNs are offering the website tunneling you are looking for. We don’t know why Norton does not offer this. This would be a good suggestion to post in the Product Suggestions forum board.

Here are back to back screen shots of a speed test with Norton VPN off and then immediately with VPN on. Speed is cut by more than half.
Norton VPN Off (I was able to include both images in the imgur upload.)
In case the image cannot be seen, speed test with VPN off is 471.95, VPN on is 243.33.
I’ll post the tunneling request as noted, but surely Norton is either working on it, or they don’t care and never will. I say this last part because it has been this way for a loooong tiiiiiime.
