VPN tunneling- Android Auto is not showing as an option

Hello, Android Auto is not showing, when I try to exclude Android Auto from the VPN tunnel (i.e. split tunneling). I have selected “All Apps” - There is no option for System Apps. Thank you.

Android Auto is an app included within the Android operating system. It is not an app that is separate and whole like many others that you might use. It is within the settings and connections.

Therefore I suspect you cannot exclude it via the VPN tunnel. I have had to shut the VPN off when I desire to use Android Auto.

As Norton’s VPN Split Tunnel does not seem to list System apps, please add a post to this Norton Product Suggestions board thread. Permettre le split tunneling pour l'application Android auto sans fil

Others, e.g. Proton VPN, have a very easy way to work with system apps (pls see picture)

Hi all,
I might have found a solution to this issue with Android Auto not working.

  1. Go into VPN Preferences.
  2. Set Auto Connect to ON
  3. Whilst in that setting go to Trusted Networks
  4. Start Android Auto (WiFi) - when the Wifi for the App starts it should be listed under “Current Network” - Click the plus sign to add it to Trusted Network.
  5. Restart Android Auto connection and it should now work OK. - well it has for me.

Don’t have the VPN switched on all the time as this is what appear to be stopping AA working - let the VPN run in Auto Connect - all other networks will switch on the VPN unless you add them to the trusted list.
Hope this helps.
