"VPShellRes.dll could not be found"

"VPShellRes.dll could not be found" pops up whenever I right-click. Since 7pm, 7/20/19, but had been doing it off/on for a few weeks now. Said to be related somehow to Symantec/Norton antivirus.

Thanks for the info, and the awakening:

I'm a home user--So apparently, years ago, I let myself be hustled into a SEP that wasn't meant for me.

At least I know now.  When I write a Guide for Failed Techies, I'll include: "#1, Stay awake."

Thanks again.

So you are using Symantec Endpoint Protection?  These forums are for the Norton product line aimed more at home users. You should be contacting the Symantec Connect forums here...  https://www.symantec.com/connect/

From my search, I found this information from Symantec on this.   https://support.symantec.com/content/unifiedweb/us/en/article.tech153712.html

"Did you uninstall a security product before this started happening?"

--Not that I know of. But I did renew my Norton antivirus a week or two before, so perhaps some other security product felt upstaged and left. During the renewal there seemed, only seemed, to be a hint too many security programs on one computer might be counter-productive.

After asking around, I was advised to use Control Panel to uninstall and reinstall SEP to fix the "VpShellRes.dll" problem. I jumped to it too quickly, didn't realize my computer's Control Panel couldn't re-install. So here I am without a paddle.

Just noticed--a different kind of paddle: After some judicious System Restore skipping about, I no longer get that VpShellRes pop-up when I right-click. Now, when I right--click, I get the left-click menu, not the right-click menu I was sort of hoping for.

A quick search turns up results showing this error appears after uninstalling a security product. I saw results for Symantec Endpoint products, Norton products, and McAfee products.

Did you uninstall a security product before this started happening?  The fixes I saw related to running the uninstall utility for your security product, and then getting a fresh install of the security product.

For your Norton product you can download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool  from    www.norton.com/nrnr    After the reinstall, be sure you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.
