I just installed NIS2010 as a clean install, meaningI had completely deleted an older version of Norton and ran Norton Removal tool and manually deleted any remaining Norton folder. Of course I was disconnected from the internet while doing the uninstall and then the installation of NIS2010.
As I went through teh installation process of NIS2010, not connected tothe internet, I got to the point were I needed to complete the Activation Process. At that point I followed the instructions to connect to the internet.
However, when I connected my computer back to the internet,I got a pop up saying taht Norton Smart filewall was turned off and my Norton icon was red. Within a few seconds it turned green
But my question is , during those brief few seconds, when Ireceived the pop saying Smart Firewall was turned off, was my computer open to attack because there was no firewall on? ( I knwo from past firewall logs that my computer does get a lot of unsused port blocking. So of course with no firewall on, my concern is that there would be connection to my PC)
Going forward, when I install NIS on another PC, after I disconnect from the internet and remove the older Norton product onthat machine, should I
1. turn on the windows firewall prior to installing the new Norton Product?
2. Or turn on the windows firewall just before going back on the internet for the activation portion of the NIS installation?
Or is the computer not at risk during the installation process even though it is connecting to the internet with no firewall on during the activation phase of installation.
