Good Day, my company is one of your corporate client. Currently in Malaysia we are having threats by W32.SillyFDC as more and more notebook are getting infected. It has infected 3 units of laptop and I believe more will be coming.
I follow the solutions given by Symantec from the tech support site and it is not solving it. The pop-up screen keep popping out and Symantec Antivirus doesn't seem to able to detect it.
I have all the screen capture and I would like to forward more information to the support team.
Kindly enlighten.
01. Update your Virus Definitions as this Worm has been Updated on August 28, 2008, rev. 03.
02. Do a Full System Scan in Safe Mode.
03. If this still does not work, please click on this Web Link: http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2006-071111-0646-99&tabid=3
Hi bytor674
1.First download and install CCleaner, here is the link
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
2. Download and install Superantispyware, update to get the latest updates, you can get it from this link
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
3.Open up CCleaner and click 'Run Cleaner', this will get rid of junk files
b)Then at the left side of CCleaner click Registry then click Scan for Issues, remove all junk pieces registry and when you are asked if you want to create a system restore point please do so and save the file any where you want.
3. Do a full system scan with Superantispyware and remove any threats detected. Then restart computer
4. Boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 when the computer starts up.
4. Do a full system scan with Superantispyware and remove any threats detected, the restart computer.
Then repeat the all of Step 3
Hope this helps :)
If you click on the notation in History under Unresolved threats, and then on the More Details button on the right, a screen, possibly with tabs, should open and will allow you to find the path to the file being identified. See what you can find.
Hi bytor674,
What security software do you have installed? What program originally found W32.SillyFDC? What program did you use to remove it? What program is giving you the message to reboot? Check Norton Security History for unresolved risks. If the threat was found by Norton but removed by a different program use the "Clear Entries" button (if using Norton 2010 or 2011) to delete it from Unresolved RIsks if an entry is found there.
While Ccleaner is relatively benign, it is not a good idea to treat cleaning, and particular registry cleaning in the same way as sweeping up the floor. Ccleaner will often bring up unused file extensions, of which .npm is one, which of course is the type of file used to store backups of cards and logins.
Cleaning the registry is not so much "cleaning" as deleting, and while a backup is saved, it is not of much use if you can't boot the machine because of a mistake. Caution is usually recommended when making registry changes.
JMHO
Yeah of course caution is needed that's why I told him to save the system restore point
The Restore points may have to be delete due to infection being in the Restore Points, so it would be useless to save Restore Points, as things could be done in the wrong order, meaning to create a restore point just to have it wiped.
