I want to change my web content filtering policy. A while back I was being inundated with porn so I set up the filtering to quite a high level, checking all the boxes. However, this means that I can't look at pub, restaurant or lingerie websites. The word alcohol is flagged up as banned. I now would like to change this to allow the word alcohol but I cannot remember how. I have been trying for over 4hrs now and I am going mad. I have had an online chat with somebody at Norton who claimes I need to get in touch with firefox, but I know that is inaccurate as it is something I did with Norton. I have been into Norton Family and unchecked the alcohol and lingerie boxes under my kids settings but that hasn't changed anything. Please help!

Can we assume you are talking about Norton ConnectSafe (formally Norton DNS)? The site might offer you a solution.
Did you change settings on your PC or router?

I don't think NIS can filter porn sites, unless they are known to host malware or viruses. It definitely sounds more like Norton ConnectSafe, which doesn't install on your system. Can you go to the following site and report if Norton ConnectSafe is green / OK and you get the message as below.

Try this - Can you go to https://dns.norton.com/dnsweb/homePage.do and in the top right corner is a Sign In button? Can you sign in using your Norton Account details? You should see a screen similar to below.
Try de-select or select the catergories of your choice. At the bottom is a Save Choices button.

Thanks, have tried this already to no avail. Tried again this morning and still won't allow me on websites that say the word alcohol. I then went onto the advanced settings and typed in a specific restaurant's website in the 'always allow website' section but it still doesn't get through. Still receiving the Norton warning -

Good Morning (well it is here in Australia), 
If you go to this site (you will need to agree to the Terms of Service) you can choose to configure either a router or your PC and you'll get the instructions to guide you.
Do you have either a router or adsl modem / router? If so you will need to login to your router and change the settings to use a different policy. The three choices are shown in the above instructions. For most home networks, the default router address is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.254. My NETGEAR modem router uses routerlogin.net.
You can also check your PC settings to make sure they are in their default condition.
This works for me with Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64.
Try this. You will need to be logged in to Windows with an Administrator Account -
Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center. Click on the connection type ( If you are connected by cable it will be Local Area Connection.)
Click Properties. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Click Properties. Toward the bottom click Obtain DNS server automatically.
Click OK to finish.
You can configure your PC to use your policy choice, but then you should reset your router. One way to make sure your router is defaulted is to find the reset button. It is normally a small hole that you push a straightened paperclip or similar into. If you do this you will need your ISP username and password, so make sure they are handy before you begin.
