Webcam not detected by SafeCam

SafeCam does not detect LogiTech Brio webcam on PC

@GeorgeGranger_III What is your OS, its build and version, and what version of Norton do you have installed?

Here are some things you can review for a possible solution:

AI Overview: *Please note that AI can and does make mistakes

To allow a specific camera or application access through Norton SafeCam, you need to configure the access settings within the Norton application on your Windows PC

.

Steps to Configure Norton SafeCam Access

  1. Open the Norton device security product on your computer. If it opens to the “My Norton” window, click Open next to “Device Security”.
  2. In the main window, double-click Security, then click SafeCam.
  3. Click the Access tab to manage permissions for individual programs.

In the Access tab, you can manage settings for specific applications that try to use the webcam:

  • Allow: To permit an application to always access the webcam, find the program’s row and select Allow from the drop-down list.
  • Block: To permanently deny access, select Block.
  • Control (Ask): If you select Ask, Norton will display an alert whenever the program tries to access the webcam, giving you the option to allow or deny access at that time.

After making changes, you may need to restart the application that uses the camera for the new settings to take effect.

If Your Camera Is Not Listed

If your camera (or the application using it) is not already listed in the Access tab, you might need to launch the camera application and prompt it to use the camera. Norton SafeCam will typically detect the access attempt and ask you to allow or block it. Once an attempt is registered, the application will appear in the list, allowing you to set a permanent rule.

For more detailed instructions, you can visit the official Norton support website.

Please note that there is no “Access” tab, but there is a tab called “App Permissions”. There is no camera listed, but there are several apps listed where access is allowed. Each app has access to the camera, and I have used it for many virtual meetings with no issue.

I am using Windows 11 Pro, version 25H2, OS Build 26200.7309, on a Dell XPS 8940. Using current version of Norton 360, fully updated.

I launched the camera and it works, but get the same message of No webcam found after closing and reopening the Norton UI.

It is a small bug in the current version loading process.

To solve go to your Windows settings / devices / camera

Find your webcam and click on it and the disable the camera. Then reenable and Norton will find the device and turn Safecam on.

My opinion is that when the PC powers on or after a restart the Norton 360 app loads sometimes before the system is ready and does not see the webcam. Sometimes it loads fine but you will might experience this issue when you restart or power on.

Thanks for the suggestion. Through trial and error, I found that the Logitech Brio is listed under Imaging Devices and USB Controllers in Device Manager, and had to be disabled and then enabled in both places before Safe Cam no longer showed the “no webcam found” message. And you were correct in indicating it would again be necessary to disable and enable the webcam when the PC is restarted.

Happy New Year!
