Hi s4u,

a big question. This is the question I hear nearly every day from our customers. I prefer Norton Internet Security and in the moment I use it too. Windows Vista is full of backup, recovery and tuning. The mostly sold computers here in germany are preinstalled and have tools for backup, recovery and so on embedded. (Vista System Repair, Manufacturer enhancements ( sometimes crap too...) and a trial version Norton IS are mostly installed too. But for XP User I prefer Norton 360 because it's an allround tool for beginners. People with sensitive data on their coumputers often use special backup tools and don't need tuning for their pcs.

Was using NIS for several years... Today Norton 360... Why.... 360 is a complete and easy to use package. Support the less skilled PC people in protecting and supporting their PC.

Using a smaller amount of system resources…

Don’t forget Symantec Support desk…. Very useful when needed. (ok, is valid also for the other Symantec (Norton) products.

Sounds like a good one.

But is that the only thing you prefer IS 2008 over 360 on Vista?

I would likely say 360, but I have not used it personally. I currently use NAV 2008 on my Vista Business Dell Inspiron.

thanx v1 or v2?

Not sure what you mean....?

I believe s4u confuse Norton 360 and NIS/NAV 2008. Only Norton 360 has a V2, or?

confused but answer was wrongly placed.

I was answering emaurer. he told that he prefered 360. So i was wondering if het prefered version 1 or version 2

…sorry… it’s 0:36 am in germany. Perhaps I hear my bed crying lol

Haha

I have the same feeling. Bye

I use NIS 2008 on my main PC, Norton 360 on others.  N360 is what I’d recommend to new users unless they are really “hands on” types.

Any reason for the difference?

For the non-technical user/operator who has some type of technical support I recommend 360. For those who are their own technical support, at least for the first few levels, I recommend NIS/NSW, etc. 360 will keep a user safe. If/when more is needed the tech support can come to the rescue. For those of us who are technical support the added features and flexibility make maintenance easier. For those of us who are slow learners they also provide a great place to learn how to fix broken things, even when we are the ones to break them. They also give us greater insight into what might be the problem with a user’s system.

Personally, I use Norton 2008 at this stage, and it has worked well. I’ve used Symantec to protect my system since Norton Pyramid Edition; and I’ve stuck with them even with all my mates telling me there’s better stuff out there.

I do not use or like Internet Security, I instead use ZoneAlarm. Hence why I do not participate and decline invites to the NIS betas. Why? Because it’s a MAJOR memory hog and was very user unfriendly (Back when I used NIS 2001 it sucked, and I haven’t given it a second chance since.)

I think Symantec pioneered the home-user category by releasing the popular N360. This version is great; it works in the background with minimal input and still provides the same protection as NAV and NIS. With the release of v2 consumers are now accepting that N360 is the premier solution for their security needs.

I prefer NIS 2007 for it’s much cheaper than Norton 360.  NIS 2008 has lots of bugs. So I choose 2007.

Thanx guys.

I'm a bit surprised, till 2 month ago I was using NIS 2008 (marketing version)  and did not have any failure... OK during Betatesting yes but afterwards no....
