Clicking on “add application” says “Add a rule to always allow or block specific apps from accessing your protected folders” - What folders?
Once the list is cleared, the message changes to says “Add app permissions to always allow or always block apps for certain Norton Features” - What features?
This is a little counter-intuitive. It seems like they are saying two completely different things.
One is talking about ANY protected folders, whether Norton or not.
The other is a little nonsensical, as it seems it should say “apps FROM certain Norton features” or “apps FROM Norton features CHANGING THEM”.
I say this, because the second one says “block”, but there is no real info on what that actually is blocking.
I will add an app I wrote myself, and the pic below shows what it says:
Does it really mean “for Nortons features permissions”?
The default is “Blocked”, so “Countdown x64 will be blocked from Ransomware protection”
Why would that be default? And, as all other apps are not on th elist, are they all also blocked?
If it was “for Nortons features permissions” it would be “Countdown x64 will not be scanned by Ransomware protection”
I feel like I am either going insane, or missing something really simple !
Win Pro x64
Norton 24
“Countdown x64” is Blocked from accessing your protected folders
“Countdown x64” is Blocked from accessing your web camera and microphone
“Countdown x64” is Blocked from accessing your browser’s data
meaning →
“Countdown x64” does not have permission to access your protected folders
“Countdown x64” does not have permission to access your web camera and microphone
“Countdown x64” does not have permission to access your browser’s data
That seems very counterintuitive, and also a little intrusive.
I would prefer to keep on using my system’s rules for camera access, not have this intefering with another level of permissions. Same with my browser data, that should be handled by my browser and the system.
Norton gets more and more controlling, but drops more and more from the base apps and wants us to pay extra for them. It’s a little disheartening.
