What is the difference between "Idle Time Optimizer" and "Insight Optimizer"?

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between "Idle Time Optimizer" and "Insight Optimizer" ,or are they one-in-the-same?

CGOLDMAN.  NIS 2010, Ver 17.5.0.127

Hi dunnd6:

I believe that prior to the NIS 2010 17.5 Update the function was called Optimizer in Norton Tasks.

Now with 17.5 it has been renamed Insight Optimizer - so yes, the same functionality.

Idle Time Optimizer is performed automatically, when your system is at an idle state (it can be turned off or the interval adjusted.)

In the Performance Screen, you will find Optimize, which is invoking the same function, but on demand.

It's all a bit confusing, IMO. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Plankton.   That answers my question.   I agree, the whole business about "Insight" is a bit mysterious.  Anyway, thanks again for replying.

For my own edification can I just ask for clarification please. Optimize found within the Performance Screen is a defragmenter. There is no indication as to whether Optimize works only on the "C" drive or all drives within the PC. Is that right?

When you use the Optimize option in Windows XP, Norton Internet Security optimizes only the boot volume (for example, C:\Windows). Therefore, it requires less time to complete optimization.

However, when you use the Optimize option in Windows Vista or Windows 7, Norton Internet Security optimizes the drive that contains the boot volume. Therefore, it requires more time to complete optimization.

This is per the NIS 2010 Help facility.  :smileyhappy:
