Issue abstract:what are Safe Web and Secure VPN? Why do I have both? Is one of them redundant?
Detailed description:
Product & version number: Norton 360, latest version
OS details:iOS 18
What is the error message you are seeing?
If you have any supporting screenshots, please add them:
The Secure VPN feature provides encryption for your data as it leaves from and returns to your computer. It also masks your IP address allowing you to appear to be in a different country.
The Safe Web feature checks any website you are trying to access against known malicious sites.
I take it you are asking this because both features show up in iOS setting under the VPN section. Because of the way Apple locks down the iOS, Norton has to use Apple’s VPN programming API’s to provide the Safe Web features.
What does this mean for the iPhone user? What settings do we use for both Norton Safe Web and Secure VPN? My phone seems to default to keeping Safe Web on, but then I still get notifications from Norton to activate my VPN.
I explain the difference in the two features in the post above yours. As a user, all you need to do is decide which feature you wish to use and turn it on or off from within the 360 app. Do not turn them off from the iOS Settings pages.
You may be getting prompted to turn on the Secure VPN feature when you are connecting to an unsecured wifi network, ie a public hotspot. In the VPN section of the 360 app you can change settings to have the VPN automatically start when connected to an unsecured network.
I would leave the Safe Web feature enabled if you do any online surfing to help protect you from getting connected to a possibly malicious web site.
