Yes, it is legitimate.
Better minds than mine will have to fully explain in technical details, but for lack of a better term it is a "product patch".
Your main window shows "protection updates", and this is a different type of fix.
I had the same notice on two computers come through automatically, and on a third I ran a manual live update and the notice came through then.
Go ahead and install it.
Hey.
So I come to the PC this morning, after leaving it on overnight to be greeted with a LiveUpdate window I've not seen before.
Saying something like "LiveUpdate needs to process files to keep your installation secure."
So I clicked install now, then LiveUpdate installed something. I clicked view details, and the update is called:
"This patch will persist the machineID across installs"
Can anybody tell me what this means? What has this patch changed.
Thanks.
Based on the wording of the description, it leads me to think it may have something to do with the activation, but who knows.
Perhaps one of the Symantec Employees could better explain when they have a free moment
I too found this over the weekend. However, it diod not ask me to install, but was part of an updated that was automatically installed
I know Norton staff are very busy these days. But when time permits, perhaps a comment to alleviate our fears?
Please have a bit more patience on this one. I will try to redirect one of the employees
This update us part of the Norton Community Watch feature, and allows upgrades scenarios to retain existing information, instead of deleting it and recreating it.
Pieter
Thanks for the technical explanation.
Much appreciated
Thanks I always know the Norton guys and gals will be there for us.
The employees sure are trying
Thanks everyone. I went ahead with it and had no problems.
Iām getting the same thing. But the main Norton window says I am up to date, so I keep putting off the install. Anyone know if it is legit?
