what's it called

What do you call a program that installs (basically hidden) as part of another (I thought totally unrelated) program, something you didn't want, would never have installed knowingly, tells you your computer is at risk, wants you to buy it's product and is really difficult to get rid off.

I'd call it underhand, devious and dodgy - (spyware, adware, malware, scareware, take your pick)

Hey guess what - this is just what Norton has done to my system. Updating a totally different program has installed this crud onto my PC (aka Norton Security Scan) and I can't remove this garbage using add remove programs. It randomly pops up telling me I need to scan my system and also has this charming message when I go to uninstall without actually letting me uninstall. I now have to look up a fix to get rid of this unwanted piece of "marketing bliss" or I can download a removal tool from the same highly unethical company that caused this piece of money making goo to be installed on my pc in the first place. Hmmm should I trust them??? NOT

I've looked up the site to see how I can voice a complaint and guess what - no way to contact them (except through the forum avenue). If I did this to people I probably wouldnt want to be contactable either.

Shame on you Norton - hope you go broke and btw welcome to the world of scareware
