When using Norton Secure VPN, how does Google display my location?

I have Norton Secure VPN (Norton WiFi Privacy). It loads at startup. It says it is working and the VPN is on. It displays my public address as on the opposite coast in the U.S. And yet, on Google it displays the name of the little town where I live and says "From your Internet address." If everything is working with the VPN as Norton claims, how does Google know my true location from the internet address being used? And if Google can tell the location, then what good is the VPN? Why am I paying money for it?

Where in Google are you seeing your location being displayed? If you are signed into your Google Account, it could be that there is some stored information there. Possibly in your browser cache. Try clearing the browser cache, restart your computer and see if you still see the same thing happening.

Try signing out of your Google account and see if you still see the same thing.
