Whenever I restart my comp i get the red X

I undid all previous changes and ran the live update. The fix appears to have worked perfectly on my computer. I do not get the red x and I can open Norton from the task bar…

Can you please try running live update, then restart your PC and see if this problem persists?

I have run Live Update and re-booted but for me the task bar will not open the main menu.

I will check all my security settings to make sure I haven't changed something but any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Let us know how you go, it does sound like some sort of corruption, in which case a reinstall may be the answer.

I believe the problem is the order in which different programs are initialized on boot up. I have had the same problem and have found that my “red-x” problem started when i installed spyware doctor (sd). I think sd is "taking over one of 360’S dutys and 360 doesn’t like it & it is fixed with the fix issues button. this might be true with other boot-up programs as well. I hope norton comes up with a fix for this compatibility problem

I checked all my setttings and all seemed as it should be. Some I changed and re-booted to see if this remedied the problem.

As nothing worked I uninstalled and re-installed Norton360. After the update the task bar icon worked as it should.

Then I ran liveupdate (after rebooting to check the taskbar icon was still opening Norton360 main menu) and this downloaded several updates some of which required a restart.

After the restart the main Menu launch from the taskbar was again broken.

I would have to say this is as a direct result of the one of the downloaded updates.

Is anyone else experiencing this, or any further suggestions I can look at...

Thanks for your input, Is there anyway to change the boot order of apps or services?

Hi MotorMouth

Did you run the Norton Remooval Tool before you reinstalled? If not, may I suggest you run in now and reinstall again to make sure we start from a clean base. After this is the problem persists, the matter may have to be escalated.

Try this and let us know the results, thanks.

PS Are you installing the product from a CD or download? You can download the latest version of N360 from here.

Hi There

I ran the standard downloaded install which uninstalled prior to starting the setup.

After your suggestion however I ran Norton Removal Tool and reinstalled Norton 360 from your link.

Straight after the install process finished the task bar main menu worked but after re-booting it was broken.

I am installing from download.

I thought, as has been suggested, that other apps starting prior to 360 may be "getting in the way" so I removed all other startup programmes and re-booted but the problem still persists.

I am sure it must be something in my setup so I will keep looking..

Thanks for the support I really do appreciate the help.

I had that problem only when i did that little fix thing, before i realized that the patch was even out that fixed it.  but once i undid everything i did it worked fine.  even tho you reinstalled it check to make sure you unchecked all those boxes i told you to check, its possible you unchecked it but it didnt apply it or maybe you forgot one…

Ok! For nearly three hours the wonderful folks at Norton online support tried to fix my intrusion protection so I could turn it on.  The “Fix” button did not work.  I turned over the computer to the tech guy from Norton so he could fix it remotely twice and both times they disconnected and the number they gave me was “invalid” for the rest of the day.   The computer even went to the restart on remote from Norton and it did not fix the Norton issue.  Time for a new patch?  I installed by download and have not tried the re-install route yet.  I mean I did not change the settings to break it so why can’t Norton fix it?

Version 2.4.0.4 fixes this problem. To upgrade:
