Where do autoblocked Mails go?

Where do autoblocked E-Mails go?

Outlook said it would download 3 Mails but only one reached me.

I am sorry, I this has been asked bevore. I did not find it in my search.

Hi herges

Could you give some more information on what Norton product you are using NIS or NAV, N360, and your operating system ie XP SP3,Vista SP1 and the version of outlook express. It will help others to solve your problem. Thanks

I added a signature. Hopyfully all you need.

Fruthermore I use POP3 unencripted.

there are no Mails in the Norton Folder of Outlook 2007.

Looks like the email never got to your Outlook.  Norton says it does nothing until you tell it (see “email, threat detected” in the Help file for NIS2009).  Even if the two emails were virus and nothing else you would have gotten a notice at the very least.  Also, is Outlook using any filters itself?  Did you look in the Junk mail folder of Outlook?

Nothing in the junk-Folder.

Do I understand you korrektly: If Norton would find a obvious phising mail it would ask me what to do with it?

If Norton finds an infected email (virus / Trojan / etc.) it will alert you and ask what you want to do.  AntiPhishing (if I follow what I have been told and reading) is handled through the Web Protection and Safe Web components which take over once you click on the link and try to open the web site.

With antiphising I meant: Settings => Internet Securtiy => Antispam => Autoblock. (translated form German)

My apploigies; you are correct.  I have never had that come into play (perhaps my ISP already filters some of this).  I’ll see if I can flag this to Symantec’s attention and get a conclussive answer.  Based on the info and wording of the help files / manuals, it could be either way; tagged as spam and going to spam folder OR not being allowed into the Email client at all.  Hopefully we will hear back today or tomorrow (probably then as weekend now).

AntiPhishing: Has Signatures of Bad Web Sites and should Display a Red X in the Norton Tool Bar when you come across one, or an "!" Mark.

Safe Web: Displays on Search Engines, such as Google, whether the Web Site is Safe or Un-Safe and also Displays a Notification if one Visits a Bad Web Site.

That’s nice but they are talking about email not web browsing.

My understanding of the AutoBlock feature is that any email downloaded from your server that matches the configuration settings in AutoBlock, will not reach your email client. It is blocked completely and will not be found in the AntiSpam folder or elsewhere.

"AutoBlock options automatically block phishing and dangerous email messages."

Depending upon your settings, "AutoBlock will block email messages that contain remote or local images, invisible text, HTML forms, obscured or disguised Web links, scripts, ActiveX objects, or Java applets."

You can check the Help section in the AutoBlock configuration window for more details.

This type of email is inherently more dangerous than spam, so entry into your email program is denied.

Where do these messages go?

If your email program is not set to leave a copy of the message on the server, then as they are being downloaded, examined and denied entry by AutoBlock, my assumption is that they cease to exist.

I am open to correction on this last part.

This is my understanding also and am waiting for confirmation from Symantec Email programmers.

Hi All

As said in the Help document, AutoBlock block email messages. These blocked Emails will be tagged as Spam and sent to the Norton Antispam Folder in the Email Client (Outlook/Outlook Express). Users can delete the Spam Emails from the NAS Folder

Thanks

Kavitha

Thanks, Kavitha.  That helps clear up the issue.

Hello Kavitha,

Thank you for your explanation and based upon your information, I stand corrected.

However that still begs the question put forth by herges:

Herges has checked the Norton AntiSpam folder and the Junk mail folder. I too am curious as to where the email went.

Upon, reading this, I searched again and found the missing 2 in nortons log.

Shame on me.

Both were "legal" Spam. (Mails which are annoying but come from important people who tend to send important Mails sometime.)

And I seam to have deleted them so fast, that I did not count them.

However the primary question - which I would have asked anyway - where such mails go, is answerd.

Thanks to all who helped!
