It depends on exactly what you're trying to do, what your file system is, and exactly what type of damage you're talking about. Copies of NSW were bootable to run NDD, but they would load in a DOS partition and so would not be usefull if your file system is NTFS. This was in NSW versions until the 2006.
NSR 1, Ghost 10, and 12 would load in a Win PE environment and provided the win32 version of NDD.
Again, it all depends on exactly what kind of problem we're talking about.
What I am looking for is the ability to do the same thing as I have been able to do with the Ghost 10 CD. Instead of running chkdsk on machines with STOP errors, I would prefer to run NDD. We have a wide range of computers, including Dell D630 laptops and Optiplex 755 desktop PC’s.
You can still boot off the disk, but the Vista compatible versions (Ghost 12/14 and NSR 2) will run Checkdisk instead of NDD.
If you boot a PC from a Ghost 10.0 disk, you can run Norton Disk Doctor to repair the hard drive. Which Norton products can you do that from now? Norton Systemworks? Ghost 14? Anything else?
I purchased Systemworks 2006 (Basic) and that CD is NOT bootable.
Correct. The only edition of NSW that contains a bootable disk still is Premier Edition. It includes the Symantec Recovery Disk which includes NDD for the 2006 and 2007 versions, but a GUI version of Checkdisk for 2008.
Systemworks 2006 had it, but I don't know beyond that. I don't know if 2006 does Vista. Doubtful.
