Hi,
During the auto updates starting from today the Whitelist failed to complete. Is it because I turned off the Smart Definitions? Liveupdate just kept on running in the background but each time it failed to update the Whitelist.

Hi,
it is not related to Smart Definitions.
Can you please try to run the update manually again? It is possible it will be installed than.
Let us know the results.
Hello ethan
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum
It is probably due to a server problem and may be fixed by now.. Smart definitions have to do with to do with what antivirus definitions are downloaded to you when you first install the program. It is an entirely different dept. and would have nothing to do with the White LIst. Some times all that is needed is a few tries of running live update manually. If there is an error, it will be noted and sent to Symantec also.
Do you have any other real time security program running?
Hi Papauz & Flopot,
Thanks for the replies! I just tried again and the update successfully went through. Nope, I ain't running any other security product. Disappointingly the Norton online chat support told me that they are related...which didn't work when I turned on the Smart Definitions. Seems like he doesn't know the workings of the product.....
Hello ethan
Thanks for coming back and marking your post as solved. Any time you have the problem of a failed download in live update, just wait a little while and run live update again manually. Many times I have seen the failed update complete successfully a few minutes later or sometimes even an hour later. I think it's usually a server problem or perhaps the updates were too large for all of them to go thru. I have seen like 2 out of 4 fail and the others succeed and then a little while later, the other 2 succeed also. If in a hurry though, you can try it manually and sometimies it will work then. Thanks.
