Who ruined the version 6 UI?

Hi all,

What did the developers do to the version 6 user interface?  It's horrible.  The product is now more difficult and cumbersome than ever to use.

1 - At the version 5 home screen all I had to do was hover over an icon and get the selections below it and also the date of the last update.  Then I could click on something I wanted to do.  Now I have to click the icon to be presented with the selections.  Why the extra mouse click?  The way the little window expands is ugly too BTW.

2 - Why are scans and tasks separate now?  In the past all I had to do was select a custom scan and in it I could do a live update, full scan, regsitry cleanup, etc.  Now I have to do 2 separate operations.  This is unnecessarily time consuming and again, involves more steps.

3 - Why isn't there a "shutdown computer upon completion" option during a scan anymore?  Now I can't start a complete scan then go to sleep or leave to go to work or whatever.  I have to wait for the scan to end then shut down the machine manually.

4 - The network map is still buried in the settings menu.  I don't know why it was removed from the main screen in version 5.  I check my network pretty often.  Since version 5 I've had to do 2 steps instead of one.  And now not only is the network map icon still missing from the main screen but an advertisement for Norton Mobile Security is there where you could put the network map icon.  As a paying customer who bought my software I resent seeing ads in it, especially on the main screen.

5 - Why do I have to activate the Activity Map on the main screen?  How do I de-activate it?  Can it even be de-activated?  If not, why not just automatically activate it without me having to do an extra mouse click?

6 - The graphic elements and text on most of the screens is too big.  The icons, status bars, etc. are gigantic compared to version 5.  It looks childish.  Why?

I can't understand why all of these extra steps were put into the new version and why the interface looks like children's wooden ABC blocks.  Can anyone help me on this?  The only thing I can think of is that Symantec is trying to bring the product into compliance with Windows 8 and all of its touch screen interaction and devices with smaller screens.

Does anyone else feel the way I do? and if any Symantec people are reading this, what's up?

Thanks,

Rocky

UI decisions are always contentious issues. No on can design one to please everyone.

What you might want to do is pass on your suggestions in the Product Suggestions board of this forum found here.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I did it.

norroc,

Quite agree with you.

A new version should be an improvement

over the previous.

I'm not impressed by the Norton reply !!!

If you are referring to my reply, I do not work for Norton. Norton employees have their names in red letters. Most of the people helping here are just users like you and I, but we just try to pass on the experiences we have had with the products.

Many of our comments are just our opinions.

For full scans, you can set the computer to: Stay On, Shut Off, Sleep or Hibernate.  Its setting is located under: Settings, Antivirus, Scans & Risks, Full System Scan, Configure & finally Scan Schedule. A lot of steps, but hopefully you can now set it & not have to wait for it to end. Hope that helps!

I totally agree with you except for the larger type. As one of the aging Baby Boomers, we need the larger text!

Granny75,

And as one who has baby boomer children I must agree :smileywink:
