Why am I asked for my Norton Password Manager Vault password for only some, not all, passwords?

I have set up Pw Manager and created the vault. I can log in and use passwords in the vault. That side of things seems to be working in as far as it goes. My vault can be successfully unlocked using the app on my phone (passwordless unlock).

BUT! For some sites, when I’m prompted to log in, clicking the Norton button finds the right credential then says, “Vault password is required” before going through an unlock cycle again - this despite the fact that the password manager is open and I am looking at my passwords. Note that the password in the vault is flagged as requiring the vault password as well.

How do I tell Norton that this is not the behaviour I want? I want to unlock my vault once and use the passwords when and as needed.

This behavior occurs because Norton allows you to set an extra layer of security for individual login credentials, forcing a secondary vault unlock even if the vault is already open.

To tell Norton to stop asking for this extra password for specific sites, you must disable the “Vault password required” toggle for each affected entry:

  • Open your vault via the browser extension
  • Locate the specific login that is triggering the extra prompt
  • Click the login
  • Unlock
  • Disable “Vault password required”

Once this is disabled, the login will autofill immediately as long as your main vault remains unlocked.

Disable “Vault password required”

Thank you. After taking the time to describe my issue and what I had tried and observed, I went hunting inside the vault and found that setting. Sometimes it helps just to write it down.
