Why am I getting a message in my Norton Message Center telling me to activate my ransomware?

Yesterday I received a message in my Norton Message Center telling me that my ransomware is not activated and gave me a button/link to activate it. I went into my account and my Norton 360 with LifeLock™ Select is active. I saw no references to ransomware in my subscriptions. Is this a legitimate message? It is getting to the point where I don't trust any messages I get, even from my Norton Message Center.

Since you do not use Norton Cloud Backup.  I imagine the "ransomware" message was just a prompt to enable/use Norton Cloud Backup.

Do I have to have my files on the Cloud to be protected from ransomware?

No.

If you’ve made an external backup of your files, then you should still have access to your data if cybercriminals try to steal and hold it hostage.

I don't use Norton Cloud Backup as I don't want my personal files "Out there". I keep my personal files on 4 separate devices and store them in different places for safety. Do I have to have my files on the Cloud to be protected from ransomware? The ransomware articles weren't clear to me. Do I have to activate it?

Um, is your Norton Cloud Backup active?
Maybe, "ransomware" message was prompt to enable/use Norton Cloud Backup.
