Why did norton 360 not stop or alert to the install of RegCleaner Pro (and other associated Malware)

Regcleaner pro has been out there for awhile so the fact that new malware and viruses appear all the time doesn't hold here.  Everything was green (on norton as having no issue).  But my wife said the computer is running slow and the security software I installed keeps poping up and asking to be purchased.   to my suprise, there was Regcleaner Pro (and other programs that were also malware like mypcbackup etc).  My question is why is this software not flagged or reported?  WTF?   After hours of removing the malware using tools other than Norton, I am wondering if I should move to another tool/ software.  Why pay for a tool if (A) it doesn't detect old malware, (B) can't remove it.

Welcome,

For starters, no single security product can protect you 100% of the time from 100% of the threats. Norton focuses on viruses and the like which can destroy programs. Many of the threats are not much more than a royal PITA.

I run an on demand scanner regularly to try and keep infections at a minimum. I also use one of the free sites listed and work with one of their trained volunteers to clean up the nastier messes that can appear.

Thanks!   I'll look at those sites.   I got it all cleaned up but I also installed malware bytes on my wife's machine to clean up and check for other malware....

Jeff,

Please use only the free version. Having two active scanners on a single machine is asking for conflicts and the possibility iof problems worse that the threat can produce.
