Why is Norton Security asking me what is safe?

Norton, are you serious? If every time some part of my computer wants to access the Internet, Norton Security is going to ask ME whether or not to approve it, what is the point of Norton Security??? I don't know. I really don't know! So why should I pay for Norton Security if Norton Security does not know more than I do??????? You must be kidding! This is so LAME! Please, get real!!!!! I am so tired of having Norton Security ask me to approve this or block that, when in truth I don't know the answer, that I am ready to uninstall Norton Security. I'm going to remove your software, and so you can imagine that I do not recommend your product, and I will not continue to subscribe. Norton Security is a complete and total waste of my money. Norton, do better, or go away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Were you able to find a setting like I pointed out for the Automatic Program Control? Normally, Norton should not be showing all those messages unless that setting is turned off.

Thanks everyone. All good answers. So between Norton products and LifeLock, I'm spending about $60 per month for protection. I guess my complaint is less a technical question, and more like, OMG, what am I paying for? LifeLock does not ask me several times each hour what to do. They just take my money and alert me when there is good reason. On the other hand, Norton is getting on my nerves. I don't know about Windows, but as a Mac user, Norton is a pain. I'm out. Goodbye Norton.

It sounds like you may have turned off the Automatic Program Control in the Firewall settings. Not sure if it is the same for a Mac, but here is where the setting is in a Windows version of Norton Security. My image shows the setting off, which would create all the messages/prompts you are seeing. Turn the setting on to stop those messages.

Thank you for sharing, I just set up my Norton accordingly just in case this will happen. But I thought it should be set default from the beginning?

Tom Purple Fish. Your Norton product is doing its job. Please read this article as it will explain how these files are used, when the system uses them and when the system notifies the user.

Hello tom.purple.fish

Please go over your Firewall Settings. Please use a Windows Administrator Account to make any changes to the program. Please pick if you are using a public or private network Settings>Firewall>General Settings>Network Settings>Network Trust>Configure. Don't forget to use Apply after making all changes.

I would recommend that you do a Firewall Reset. The Firewall is known as the Smart Firewall. All the settings should be done automatically.

I also would recommend that you review all the program settings. Under Help, there is a copy of the Product Manual which you can look over if need be. Also at the end of each setting is a ?. If you click on that, it will explain the settings to you. If you are getting asked about every program, then you have something set up incorrectly. That setting is only used by those who want it to be set like that.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.
