Why the automatic renewal is much more expensive than buying?

After many years of subscribing to Norton I am looking for other options. The automatic renewal is much more expensive than buying from a shop, I am constantly bombarded with "special offers" I don't want - and shouldn't need if what I have already bought worked properly. Contacting customer support is a nightmare. What a pity that what used to be an excellent product has deteriorated to this extent.

Leighag:

I have always purchased Norton from a 3rd party as it cheaper and until recently I just typed in  the new key and it was all good.

Now when putting in the Key it wants credit card details and i have to remember to go into the account and turn off the renewal.

I cant see the need for this when it was not purchased from Norton Online

A couple of months ago, I received notice that Norton was charging me a renewal fee of several hundred dollars for services I didn't know I had. I contacted Norton and told them I wanted ONLY Norton 360, and was issued a refund. Today I was notified that they are charging me a hundred dollars for Privacy Monitor Assistant renewal. I canceled that. I am tired of getting charges and "renewals" I did not ask for.

I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING CANCELING ALL NORTON SERVICES FOREVER, although I have been a customer for many years.
