This icon appeared on my desktop today when I turned on my coomputer, I am going to try and find a way of seeing where it is coming from because it is starting to bug me, all I need is for the icon to appear again and I already know how to keep it there…

It came up again i right clicked it and clicked move then clicked close but as i did a box popped up asking if i don’t want to see this notification again unfortunately it happened to quick and unexpectedly and i cant get the icon back to try to get the check box up again but it may be a answer to stopping it well a answer stopping you seeing it maybe a live update could check this box for us, but anyway if you see it again try playing with it to get the checkbox up and tell me how it goes because its really bugging me.

Im not going to touch it next time it comes up, im going to trace it back to the process, if anyone can find anyway of getting it up, please post how…thanks!!:smileywink:

Try rebooting a few times apparently that’s when it occurs if you read back a few pages its what they call a toaster a sort of artefact of a notification window so it wont show up on processes but good look and if you find something post back im keen to get rid of this thanks.  :smileyvery-happy:

This is the process with the error "ccSvcHst.exe" not sure what it does had a look on the net and found nothing but complaints about it using alot of CPU power before a patch but its defenately the process causing the error.

We are currently working on this issue, however, it should have no effect on your system performance. It has been tracked down to a notfication window (or toaster) that would normally some sort of information for the system.

It's currently being created as hidden, but somehow showing up on some systems. We will keep you posted as to the progress.

Thanks,

Matt

I do know that you are looking into this and I don't have any concerns about the issue as such, but as I have, on the last few occasions the toaster icon has appeared, been able to open it. I thought a screenshot of it opened may be useful.

Norton360 Toaster Popup

Do you know the circumstances that make it show up?

Can you make it happen every time?

Thanks for the screen shot,

Matt

Hi Matt

I have just gone through several uninstall and re-installs of Norton360 trying to fix the broken (for me) task bar icon command to open the main menu. After each re-install this icon appeared not long after. Not on re-boot but after several sessions.

I kept my mouse pointer inside the partially exposed icon as shown by others in this thread, and clicked all over the icon until it responded.

I am sorry there is nothing I can force reproduce, but I will try some things and report back.

If you right click on the small round circle on the bottom left of the icon you get two options move and a grayed out option close moving it about a bit normally brings up the turn notifications off box however when ever its checked it automatically closes so you can never actually check it.

My friend and I have both seen this little icon appear on our Vista pc's  ...... she would see it about 10 mins after bootup and it would stay there until she left the pc to be idle ... it would disappear when a scan kicked in.

On my vista pc I would see it (if I was there) when the pc had been idle and scanning was about to begin.

I right clicked on it and selected close and never saw it again, my friend has since had to completely remove Norton 360 v2 due to problems that could not be rectified. *Not related to this icon I might add ;)

Is it possible this icon is only appearing on Vista pc's ...... any XP users seen it ??

The icon appears exactly as Liverbird describes on my PC (Vista) not on my XP laptop.

matt

i know what setting causes the icon to appear.. at least for me.

i have windows vista ultimate and the icon is only ever visible when my desktop colour settings are set using the WindowsAero profile.. switchto Vista Basic and it disappears, switch back to Aero and there it is!

would be interesting to see if that is the case with anyone else

adam

Adam do you have the icon there at all times when the profile is set to Aero ?

Just with you saying that it disappears and re-appears on changing the colour settings  ....... I think most of us would have to wait around to see if it appears at all as it seems to be sporadic and not appear at specific times.

Will be interesting to hear if this indeed is the cause though.

I’ve found that the odd icon only shows up when norton is doing a scan on my system by itself. Or when it’s just automatically doing anything by itself. Which I find beneficial because I know 360 is doing something

I’ve also been having this on my desktop running Vista Ultimate for quite some time.  FWIW, I actually did manage to click the “don’t show this message again” checkbox and it didn’t help… the icon came back.

If you want to get rid of this icon you can just disable "automatic task popups" on the rand hand side of the settings window.

Dan I think if that box is ticked then the popups that we normally see down by the clock, ie;..... "background scan in progress" and such, will also be disabled.

I don't know about others but I prefer to see this so I know Norton is doing what it should be doing lol  :smileyhappy:

Actually its if the box isnt ticked the icon and the balloon popup you mentioned dont show so if you want rid of the icon untick this box and the balloon popup has its own problems or at least it does for me after its complete its backup or optimisation it says its complete but doesn't fade until hovered on with the cursor this may be deliberate though as the computer backups or optimises when idle ie when not being used this may be because if your away which is likely if its idle you comeback and know it has backed up, either way they both annoy me and i dont really need to no what its doing it as i bought it to protect me from viruses and have disabled the backup services anyway so at least if u want a tempory fix from the icon bug use this until norton fix it propley then you can retick the box if you like and get your backup notifercations.

Hope This Helps
