WiFi Privacy not loading

Hi all

I have an issue installing WiFi Privacy. Seems to work fine on the PC and android phone but not on Windows 7 laptop.

On opening it crashes immediately. Open as admin it starts and the screen pops up with the spinning circle but that's it. Downloaded three times, uninstalled, restarted etc. No dice. Same result.

Anyone else encountered this before? Happy to supply more details as I have been a bit vague here.

Also installed Premium Security same day and working fine.

Cheers

I had the same problem and called Norton Technical Support. The woman said they've had a lot of calls about it. She took remote access of my computer and tried to get it to run, but couldn't. She did that one more time without success. She then recommended I hang up the phone and tried 4 or 5 times without success. No solution yet.

I already did this but no joy for me

Yesterday I contacted Norton support via chat and the tech, Rahul Shukla, took over my Win 7 laptop for about 70 minutes and got NWP functional.  Yea!  The only aspect that remains not quite right is the clarity of the NWP status window that appears when I click on the NWP icon on the taskbar; the lettering is dithered but readable, so this is a trivial issue.  I suggest that you initiate a similar session using the "chat with Norton support" link at the upper right of this page.

Thanks. I guess we wait.

They seem to be pretty common graphic adapters. Do you know if Norton is working on a fix?

It is not likely the 64 bit OS causing the problem. I am running on a 64 bit system and have no problem running NWP.

It is more likely to be the integrated graphics on the two problem machines.

Same problem on two Win 7 systems: 1) Win 7 Professional 64-bit OS on a Lenovo SL510 laptop (Display adapter: Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family), and 2) Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS on a Fuji-PC (Display adapter: Intel(R) Q45/Q43 Express Chipset). The Win7 Professional installs but then loads perpetually without ever getting to login. The Win7 Ultimate also installs but crashes on startup after a few seconds.

I successfully installed and can run Norton Wifi Privacy on a Windows Vista 32-bit system and on an ipad2.

Only the Win7 64-bit systems fail. My display adapters are current. I'm wondering if the 64-bit OS is an issue. Most installs want to know if the target system is 32 or 64-bit. The Wifi Privacy install didn't ask.

I guess I'll wait another week or so to see if Norton comes up with a fix before requesting the refund.

@jon_p_11

Is there any update on this graphics issue?

I have the same problem -- WiFi Privacy crashes during loading -- despite multiple reinstalls.  Loaded fine on my Win 8.1 desktop.  Norton: Please escalate this issue.  Log from my Dell Studio laptop with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1:

It's doing the same thing on my laptop.  I bought a multi device subscription.  Loaded fine on my desktop, ipad, and iphone.  Just a wheel going round and round on my laptop.  Doesn't sound like there's going to be a quick fix.

S.T.

If you wish to get a refund while Norton tries to figure this out, you should contact Support. You have 60 days from the purchase date.   www.norton.com/contactcs

Then you can keep any eye on this thread for when a fix is posted.

Keep me posted...I am having the exact same problem with my HP laptop using Windows 7. I might cancel Norton Wifi Privacy if I can't get it to load.

I appreciate knowing that the engineering team is on the case.

@Stuart05, the engineering team is aware of an issue with display drivers that is occurring with some Windows computers and are working on a fix that will hopefully be released in one of the upcoming updates. I have also sent you a private message to request some additional information if you would be so kind to reply.

Thanks.

No dedicated graphics adapter - Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family.

I am starting to rue my decision to switch from Trend Micro. It worked fine on this laptop.

All I hear is the chirping of crickets from Norton Techs.................

I still have not heard back from my contacts.

Does your laptop happen to have a dedicated graphics adapter as well as the built in Intel adapter? If so, see if you can set which adapter to use with NWP.  I think you do that from the control panel for the dedicated adapter. ie nVidia.

Thanks for your input LucentWarrior. I added NWP to the Program Control in NS, but it still crashes on startup.

I had something similar to this happen on my windows 10 pc, where the login screen would appear but as soon as I tried to login, it would just crash, and eventually just opening the login screen it would crash. After looking in Norton Security itself, in the Firewall "Program Control" I found that Norton Wifi was not Automatically placed. I had to manually add it and set the allow rule, and then all worked fine.
