Windows 10 Cursor looses focus while typig since install of new Norton version?

I can’t say for certain that these things are related, obviously it could be something else,
but since my Norton was upgraded to v24.x my cursor looses focus in both local applications (e.g. MS Word) & while browsing…

Anybody else seeing this?
Thanks!

Hello NCHoser. I DO see the mouse cursor disappear when doing general typing although moving the mouse again will make it reappear. To be best of my knowledge that has always been the case my side. Typing here in the forums the mouse cursor stays where I left it to reply.

Sorry … I should have done better at explaining …
I’ll be typing along and the “window” in which I am typing looses “focus” so whatever I’m typing at the time does not get entered the “focus” seems to go to the title bar and then about “three characters later” focus is returned to where the cursor is located…

The term “focus” is confusing a bit lol. As I read it, the words/letters you are typing jumps from the area where you begin typing, to another area? What OS are you using? What browser? What version Office is this happening with?

Thanks …
Win10 with all patches except this month’s (Oct)
Whatever I’m typing just stops being “accepted” in the open window.
after a second or two I am able to type again.

Seems to happen everywhere …
Current version Firefox 131.0.2
MS Outlook 2021 w/ all patches applied (except Oct)
and so on…
it is intermittent it is hard to pin down …

I am Windows 11 but same things should apply. If I have a document, browser, or an empty screen, if you accidently nudge the mouse rightwards or downwards, the standard ‘arrow’ will disappear off screen & hide. If this happens, pressing Control key will show a brief circle where it is hiding, you can then move it back to the required location
In Word, or, if composing an email in Office Outlook, you have two different cursors, the one inside the composing area changes to an ‘I’ beam which can be hard to see, that shows the current mouse pointer location with-in the document only, actual mouse pointer could be off screen or on the Desktop but not with-in Word itself. The actual text insertion point is shown as a pulsing vertical bar and only moves when the ‘I’ beam pointer is moved & mouse button clicked, so, in effect, this replaces the standard arrow which could be anywhere on screen. I used to have issues locating the current insertion point, this can be located, once again, by pressing Control or by going into mouse properties where you can change size/colour of arrow and increase the width of the pulsing text insertion point to make location easier.

Some suggestions for things to check about cursor issues from Microsoft Answers.

Thanks folks!

I am having trouble “using my words”…

What’s happening is I’ll be typing along and the computer acts just like there has been a mouse-click outside of the text-box/text area I am typing in. It lasts for about two-characters worth of typing, then I get control again, but whatever word I was typing is missing the last two-characters I typed.

I can not put my finger on WHY it seems random

:frowning:

Trying to watch more closely:

The title bar of applications like Outlook-email & Word will “blink” to a darker color (not-the-window-of-focus) color when typing stops working,
Then a second later the window turns bright again and typing goes back to normal…

Just FYI:

I have uninstalled the new version of norton, and have “fallen back” to the standard/included Microsoft AV & Firewall offerings
(…after having been a norton user since it came on 5 1/4" diskettes)
My cursor behavior has returned to normal.

Jim

Thanks for the post-back and follow-up!!

You bet!

If anything changes I’ll post back, but after several hours and several reboots
things are staying “fixed” !
