For those that would like to install Win11 on an unsupported machine:
Latest Rufus Release Introduces 'Extended' Windows 11 Support
The perfect tool for systems which don't meet Windows 11's main requirements
Windows 11 has some rather demanding CPU requirements which mean that owners of slightly older machines could miss out on Microsoft's latest OS. Bypassing the TPM requires a few complex steps, but it seems that there is now an easy way to bypass these requirements, via Rufus which has just been updated to version 3.16 Beta 2. With the latest beta of Rufus we can adapt the stock Windows 11 ISO images for use with machines that don't meet Microsoft's requirements.

More peanut-butter-jelly time from Microsoft and Windows 11. Seems really clear to me personally, Microsoft wants users on a new computer at all costs. Whether you love and have W11 or don't. The optics are not favorable for users. Users don't want to risk trashing a computer with this non-sense going on.
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/windows-11-incompatible-with-apps-using-non-ascii-registry-keys/
And on the flip side....some users are seeing the peanut-butter-jelly as expected. Performance hits and the like shouldn't be acceptable with any new OS release. Thus, it indicates MS hasn't, as usual don't the proper testing and evaluation. Nor, have they worked with vendors in a manner that would prevent this. What they HAVE done, is the same as Google has done for ages. Make this their way or the highway. I'm sticking with the highway for now. The water is too deep.

Hello Apostolos, good seeing you again. Great info and thanks for the feedback. I too have an older machine not being used and MAY, at some point go the route you have as well. BETA is BETA though.

Hi all,
Just a quick note to mention that I have installed W 11 on a highly incompatible laptop, (Legacy BIOS/MBR disk), following the steps of post #266 here: Let's run Windows 11 on an incompatible hardware | Page 14 | Windows 11 Forum (elevenforum.com)
The installation of build 22000.194 went, to my surprise, very smooth, W11 loaded without a single issue, all drivers from MS were there, no errors etc.
So far, I do not like the Start menu, but because it's highly customizable, I've managed to get something decent, the Settings app is redesigned completely, and almost all the rest is Windows 10. (Some people may also do not like the removal of the ribbon in My Documents, This PC and similar apps or the right click redesigned menu, but I can live with that).
Windows Update works, for the moment, and if in the future, I can receive Feature or Security Updates, even manually, if needed, I think I'll stay with W 11, it's like W10 with and "extended" licence on this laptop.
Also, I do no see any noticeable performance differences between W11 And W10. Now I'm Dual-Booting W11/W7 x64.
P.S. N360 successfully migrated from W10 to W11 and it works fine. (Just disabled Auto-Protect and Smart Firewall during installation).
Cheers,
The "peanut-butter-jelly" of Windows 11 is already raising its head. Killing the fastest core and breaking L3 cache on Ryzen CPU's will put a bad taste in a lot of users mouth about W11. This release is still BETA, stay away from it until it matures is my suggestion. Consumers have about had it with BETA trash these days. I know I have.

So it's "Not doing enough" rather than "Look at what they've done now" ...
Nothing personal taken. Nothing perfect indeed, however, complacency on the part of Microsoft is dangerous. The past year is a serious malware roundtable of that.
FWIW!! If we can all remember when W10 hit the road, it left W7 consumers out in the dark. There were stipulations with hardware requirements with W10 as well, although not as stringent and overkill as MS is leaving those of us with W10 devices that are absolutely capable of W11. In these posts here there are arguments outlined that put egg directly in the face of MS over the coming release. WPBT is nothing to sneeze at and is directed at the very issue with TPM Microsoft insists upon. How can MS insist on CPU demands when ACPI and BIOS jacking takes place before the OS even loads? AND, its just one of many "security" issues already known even before the intitial RTM release. Making matters worse MS wants to sell us up with their NEW line of Surface products, leaving behind many of those who own current devices ( Surface ) that may be 2-3 year old and paid darned good money for them. Such is the direct delimna with PC and laptop owners.
Where does that leave W10? Exactly where Windows 7 was left. A never finished OS which was a basic FREE test bed for the peanut butter jelly time OS that is coming. W10 users for the most part will stick with W10 vice W11. Chip shortages, over pricing of products that are NOT the latest will factor into things. With a once annual feature release cadence, W11 is going to be deadpan boring. If users want a MS OS that clones MAC, to each their own. I CAN and do run Linux of diffrent flavors on other machines that perform great without all the head banging MS patches that break more than they fix. We've endured that for more than just a couple of years already. We shall and should expect more coming in the flavor of W11. Thanks for letting me vent as well.

SoulAsylum:Looks like the script kiddie clown show has begun with Windows 11. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/new-windows-11-install-s...
Seems to me that what Microsoft is doing, according to BP, is sensible provided it is not used by those it was not intended for.
Any one of us who has done development work knows that it is impossible to achieve perfection so one does what one can and lives with it.
This is not a paid advertisement (!!!) but I get tired of everyone criticizing Microsoft for not achieving the impossible .....
PS to SA -- nothing personal it was just an opportunity for me to vent!

Microsoft pushed a BIOS / Firmware update to my Dell gaming rig yesterday. I am of the assumption it is to block the WBPT-ACPI issues mentioned in my last post. Multiple flashes.

Microsoft is all about "security"? Thats the joke of the week. Please read: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/microsoft-wpbt-flaw-lets-hackers-install-rootkits-on-windows-devices/
MS is worried about a TPM chip when ACPI will get you all the hacker love you can handle. Windows 8 and above.

Microsoft states it will now allow installation of Windows 11 on unsupported system but, with a "formal agreement" or, an aka waiver, during the install. I can't wait for MS market share to take the hit we all know is coming. Too many systems are out there that will run the Windows 11 fudge with ease. Personally I hope users are smart enough to forego the upgrade until MS gets it in a state that doesn't constantly change, AND, puts consumers first.

Looks like Mozilla added a workaround to Firefox v91 and higher that automatically associates the necessary file extensions (e.g., .html and .htm) and protocols (e.g., HTTP and HTTPS) with Firefox if a user goes to Settings | General | Startup | Make Default to choose Firefox as their default browser on a Win 11 computer.

Directly from the Microsoft blog. Windows 11 will be a "phased" release ongoing well into the possibility of mid-year 2022. I can't think of a better reason NOT to upgrade until the OS has matured, if at all. Exponding on my previous post of course. Also have a look at the "new hardware" sell-up being presented. In a time where the world at large hasn't come close to exiting a pandemic, chip shortages, etc. Its really similar to the Apple model wouldn't you say?

Lol!! The Windows 11 hype sure sounds like the Windows Vista and 8 debacles doesn't it? And to think. Microsoft wants us to rush out and purchase new hardware or a new PC to run their new OS that hasn't been vetted by anyone outside the insider program other than a magic few. Those few who have gotten things amazingly backwards with updates to Windows 10 over the past 2-3 years. Amazing. Ads, will break the back of MS. Opening apps on my mobile device inundates me with ads loading without permissons. Taking forever to read the articles on news feeds having to wait for trash to load. Scroll down a bit and its, lather, rinse, repeat!!! I CAN'T imagine Windows being that way unless of course, the "windows as a service" is the end game.

Microsoft reportedly broke Windows 11 by injecting ads
Yesterday after releasing new Windows 11 builds in the Dev and Beta channels (two different builds, mind you), Insiders reported that their Start Menu and taskbar were crashing. As it turned out, it was caused by Windows 11 delivering ads
https://www.xda-developers.com/microsoft-breaks-windows-11-by-injecting-ads/
XDA Developers have created a fairly composite list of devices that will run Windows 11. Mostly focused on devices many people already have. Anyone interested can read the article here.
