Windows 7 distorted sound

My new logitech speaker set z323 has distortion with the woofer on. Turn volume to zero on woofer, clear sound. With woofer, severe distortion.

This is a Windows 7 problem that is documented... problem appeared suddenly about a week ago after a Norton 360 update. I was wondering if your support has come across this problem and have a solution. Nothing works playing around with "Sound/Speaker" control panel, etc. And I don't want to uninstall  and reinstall Norton.

I thought my old multi-media speakers had gone bad... I had a simple set of two speaker logitechs, tested them, and the sound was good and clean.

I was wanting new speakers, so I just bought the Logitech z323 set... but, they have the same distortion problem (only crisper!).

Here's the info on the Windows distorted sound problem.
