Windows 7 - How to disable Autorun

Hi all

I have been searching, googling and reading like crazy but I can not find anything that gives me information on this.

Assume I have a USB that has autorun.inf virus on it. Of course, before I put it into my computer, I would like to disable autorun so that whatever the autorun.inf is trying to execute (let's say virus.exe) as soon as I put in my USB, will be stopped.

My OS is Windows 7. I can not find any information on how to disable autorun. I can find a ton of articles on how to disable autoplay and there seems to be a huge confusion between AUTORUN and AUTOPLAY.

Autorun is as far as I know: Program that executes as soon as you put in your USB if it has autorun.inf that tells it to do so.

Autoplay is as far as I know: Window that comes up as soon as you put in your USB and asks you what you want to do.

As you can see; two different things that makes two different actions.

I have heard things about Autorun being disabled in Windows 7 and all that. But I can not find anything.

So, two questions:

1) Have I understood all this right?

2) How do I disable autorun on Win 7?

Much thanks.

(Of course I will have NIS 2011 - but what it if it's a new unknown virus, or old unknown virus that has only been spread within a few people?)
