Windows 8 mouse problems after installing NIS

I have just installed NIS 2 days ago & now my mouse is not working properly. Neither button responds as it should. Sometimes they work, other times I click 4-5 times before anything happens. I've defragged the drive, checked the mouse drivers & replaced the mouse batteries without any result.

I'm running Windows 8 Pro. My processor is a 2.4 GHz AMD Athlon dual core. The mouse is a Microsoft wireless optical mouse 2000 & keyboard. Device manager says the drivers are up to date & working properly.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome,
The last time my mouse elected to do its own thing I found that if I cleaned the lens on the under side it returned to my control. Just a small amount of lint and the normal drafts in a room can be read by the mouse as commands and it tries to obey. :smileywink:

Stay well and surf safe

Do you have another mouse you can use to test? I had an wireless optical mouse just die on me. This can save a lot of troubleshooting within the Windows system.

Guzzista,

I've had Windows 8 decide to over-ride the drivers from Microsoft's own Intellimouse package and install the built into Windows ones which don't have the same ability to change settings.

I also found that an update to the Intellimouse version said to be for Windows 8 also seemed to remove those settings and that I had to go to the Microsoft Hardware site and get the Intellimouse that came previously for Windows 7.

This is on an Intellimouse optical USB/PS2 so although I'm using USB I downloaded the IP7 version .... similar for the Intellitype package if you have a Microsoft keyboard.

You might think of trying the Driver Rollback in Device Manager to see if that fixes it.

I managed to borrow another mouse & it works fine so the problem must be the MS mouse it's self.

Moral of the story: Don't waste your money on an expensive name brand mouse because a cheap generic mouse will do the job better.

Thanks for the update ....

As long as it works ...

I do like the MS Intellimouse I have and the Microsoft Digital Media 3000 keyboard I have is one of the best I've used since IBM stopped making them ..... <s>

Glad to hear you found the solution.

Sure saved a lot of troubleshooting that would not have helped anyway.
