Hi, I noticed a little problem this morning. The norton shortcut no longer had the picture, just a default one. When I clicked on it, I got the message: "Windows is searching for uistub.exe" and nothing started. Thankfully the taskbar icon is still here and lets me start my Norton, but I can't seem to find the program files in my computer to just replace my shortcut. It's like there are missing folders, although I could be wrong, I haven't really looked at them much.
I have the NIS 2010 Netbook Edition. And Norton still lets me do updates and scans when I start it from my taskbar. It hasn't found anything wrong, and it performed a full scan just this morning, finding nothing unusual. My computer seems to be running fine, if anything, faster than usual.
Thank you for any help you can send my way.
This usually happens when thee is an antivirus engine update. The shortcut might be linked to a 16.7 and Norton has changed to a 17.7, so it can't find it. The path will depend to some extent on your operating system.
Thank you for the quick response! Is there any way that I can get the shortcut back? I know I can create one from the exe file, but I haven't been able to locate it yet.
uistub.exe should be here:
C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Engine\17.7.0.12
did it just start doing this randomly? Or did Norton ask you to restart maybe? or did you update something...? etc
Yes, I did find the uistub.exe file in that location. And it loads norton without any trouble.
As far as I know it didn't start after anything in particular. I had left my computer on overnight and when I went to look at it in the morning, the shortcut wasn't working. So it could have been an automatic update.
After restarting my computer, my shortcut is now looking like its old self, but it still is giving me the same message and not starting norton. However, the uistub.exe in my folder has a different image on the yellow icon than my shortcut does. If that makes a difference.
It's not really too much of a nucance, I can easily use Norton without that particular shortcut, I was just checking to make sure it wasn't anything to be concerned about.
Thank you for the help!
Right click on the uistub that works and use that to make a shortcut. You can delete the old one that does not work.
