Hi guys, before i installed Norton 360 i could stream music from my PC to my ps3 freely, but now that I've installed it, windows media player 11 cant even find my ps3. i have media sharing enabled, and all the right settings in wmp 11 so i'm sure the problem lies in the firewall. i disabled "smart firewall" for 15 minutes and tried again but nothing. i need to be able to stream music and i don't really want to lose Norton. can i do anything to fix it? thanks.
Hi,
try this:
0. Turn your ps3 on
1. Open Norton 360
2. Click on the little house icon on the main window (network configuration window will open)
3. On the new window find under devices your PS3
4. Click on the Edit link by trust level
5. Set trust level to full trust
6. Click OK (2x)
7. Test connection.
Let us know the results.
i did all of that but it still wont work. in that norton page you mentioned, instead of the device(ps3) being added to my network it got added to the "trust control" page. i'm having no luck at all.
Can you check this:
1. Right click on the Norton icon by the clock
2. Click on Disable Smart Firewall
3. Check the ps3
4. Right click on the Norton icon, and enable smart firewall.
And do you know on which network port (number) communicates your ps3 with your pc? Maybe you can find it in the manual.
Please check it, and if you found it, please write us the number, and we will guide you how to create a new firewall rule to open that port.
Let us know the results.
i tried that and nothing. how do i find out which port it uses?
I found only this:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/3_15/settings/connectadvance.html
Can you check if the last (UPnP) is enabled?
Or if here in the network settings there is some kind of configuration to change on which port the device can comunicate with the PC.
i enabled the upnp a while back but the results of the internet connection test said it's not available. there is no option to change the port. i don't think my router supports upnp but i'm not sure. i'm nat 1 so i don't think many ports are closed.
On the network security map (where you can set the trust levels) can you check what is set to your whole network? Maybe the whole network's trust level is set to a lower one, and it causes this error.
Let us know the results.
no its all set to full trust. im losing hope here i think i'll just give up. thanks for all the help anyway.
Don't give up!
I'm sure we can find out on which port do you ps3 and pc communicate. Or what the problem is. :)
Do these steps:
1. Open 360's main window
2. Go to the Tasks page
3. Click on History
4. On the new window's bottom click on Clear History
5. Close the window
6. Turn the PS3 on, and try to reach the PC
7. Go to the History, and on the drop down list select full history
8. Search the logs, there should be one that will show you a blocking from the IP, your PS3 has
9. Click on that history item, and click on details
10. Make a screenshot about that page, and upload it to us (you can attach pictures to the posts by clicking on the little "tree" icon in the editor)
If you see more than one log when the PS3 device tries to reach the PC, then check if they are the same, if not, make every of them a picture, and attach to your reply.
your right, i wont give up. i found lots of them but they were all the same. here is a picture of one.
OK, here are the steps:
1. Open 360 settings
2. Go to the Firewall Settings -> General Rules tab
3. Click on Add
4. Select Allow, click Next
5. Connections In and Out, , click Next
6. Only the selected devices, click on Add and write your PS3's IP, click OK, click Next
7. Only selected ports, click on Add, on the list find port 135, click on it, then on OK. Repeat the same, just on the new window select local/remote, click Next
8. click Next
9. you can change here the name, click Next
10. click Finish
11. Now it will be the last, withe the Move up button move it to the top
12. Save the settings
13. Test the connection
If this helps not, edit the firewall rule, and add to the ports the remote and local 53070 port as well.
Let us know the results.

You should be able to use the MAC address in place of the IP address.
i tried using the mac address but it didn't work.

Hi Jonnuelvis
Have you tried setting it as "Any computer in the local subnet" to see if that allows a connection?
i just did and nothing. why doesn't it work even when i disable the firewall?

Reviewing all of the things that have now been tried it seems unlikely it is a firewall issue.
i know, i figured out it must be the ps3. i have an old laptop with no antivirus or firewall or internet security at all, it found the ps3 nicely and i allowed it but the ps3 still said no media server found. thanks for all the help guys, sorry for wasting your time.

Hi Jonnuelvis
It is never a waste of time, we learn things along the way and we are always happy to try to help. We do have a forum called Tech Outpost which is for issues that do not involve Norton products.
