As far as I know this is a bug where Vista does not recognize Norton even though Norton is working just fine. Last I heard Symantec and Microsoft were working on a fix but until that is avalible there is nothing to do but wait.

To disable the warning, open the Security Center in Vista. On the left hand side you have a text saying "Change the way security center alerts me". Click on that and you should be able to disable it.

Thanks... wish the support could have told me that instead of taking 30 minutes on a chat and remote takeover of my pc.

Using Vista and NIS 2008

Windows as a red shield in the bottom right corner and tells me that the firewall is off, and that I don't have any antivirus software installed.

NIS 2008 tells me everything is on and protected.   I went online and did a chat, and was basically told to just ignore the warning...

If you have any other firewals enabled (Windows Firewall and other programs) you will want to disable them. This might be causing the problem with the security center.
