Hi,
I recently had some trouble with my Vista Home Premium (service pack 2) PC (a virus that was removed a few days before my problem) so I thought I would use system restore to go back to a point before I had any trouble.
Once I did this however I've had windows security centre telling me (each time I log on) that I have no firewall on AND Norton360 anti-virus reports that it's turned off.
When I try and turn on the firewall I can only see/use windows own firewall protection and malware says Norton360 anti-virus protection is in the list but its turned off and when I click 'turn on' Norton shows that everything is working the way it should.
I have tried some of the solutions online here and elsewhere but nothing works, I'm going to list a few things I've noticed that may have caused the problem and also things that I've tried to do to fix it.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THINGS THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE PROBLEM:
.The reason I used system restore was because I got the virus that pretends it scanning you're pc for viruses but is really a virus its self. As far as I know I removed it fully (using both Norton360 and Malwarebytes) but maby there were adverse effect that I didn't know about.
.When I did system restore it came back saying something was wrong and so no setting were changed (and as far as i can see there weren't).
.When trying to use norton to see what might have caused it, one thing told me to scan my pc with command prompt and sfc/scannow and when I did there were errors that it could not fix so sent a report to cbs.log.
.Although, as I say I did system restore because of the virus it was actually because my printer wouldn't print anything except the page number at the top and the file location/date at the bottom EXCEPT when I printed a picture in photo express. So because of this and the fact I got that virus a few days before I decided to use system restore.
THINGS I HAVE TRIED TO DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
.I've tried scanning my computer with Norton360 and Malwarebytes but they both come back clean
.I uninstalled and then reinstalled Norton360 v4.0 but that didn't help
.I tried the regsvr32 /u WMIUTILS.DLL thing but that didn't help (I know its for Windows 7 but I thought I would give it a try).
.I tried this solution from dv2006 but to no avail.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope all that makes sense as I really don't know what to do. What I'm most worried about is if I'm not fully protected from online threats. If this is some weird communication error between windows and norton but everything is work the way it should then I can live with that but as I say I really don't know what's going on.
I really hope some one out there could help me with this problem.
