Windows xp

I downloaded norton internet security 2012 and have installed it on windows xp and windows 7.  The one on windows 7 works perfect, but the one on windows xp crashes and will not start again.  Have uninstalled it and used norton unintaller but everytime I reinstall it it crashes.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

What security application did you have on the XP machine before installing NIS 2012? How did you remove them before installing NIS 2012?

How did you install it -- download from Norton, using a disk or downloaded file or ....

When you say "Crashed" can you describe in more detail what happened including just when it crashed during the procedure or after and any error messages etc you got?

Sorry to ask so many questions but we can't see your PC!

That's OK I had Norton internet security 2011 its about ready to expire so I thought I would try 2012.  Have windows XP 32 bit pro sp3 I downloaded the 2012 Trial version from Norton, I uninstalled the 2011 using the built in uninstaller also used Norton removal tool and Norton power eraser.  It crashes after it is installed I try and click on the icon in the task bar and it disappears, then try and start it from programs and it will not start.  I have checked for viruses and malware rootkits everything  comes up clean.  Hope this is enough info.

Thanks

You mentioned you use Power Eraser. Did you delete anything using that tool? If you delete the wrong file, you could cause instability in your pc. Actually the power eraser is not necessary in the upgrade, just the Norton removal tool and the uninstall using add/remove or start menu.

If you did delete something, what did you delete.

I didnt use power eraser until I after I had the problem.

Any other security programs you are using. What was the prior security program you had before Norton (factory installed included). Did you use the program’s removal tool e.g. McAffee removal tool for McAffee products.

Any other products that you have may share the same job as Norton and conflict with it?

You can ask for help here...

Help Desk

You can ask them(chat support) to remotely connected to your computer and try to solve your problem...

this is the best way for those who didn't know much about .....:smileyhappy:

@swordkidz shh… don’t tell them that or we may have nothing to do :smileyvery-happy:

Anyways, chat maybe your best option for difficult tasks, but we would leave the lights on if the tech guys can’t fix the problem :smileytongue:.

If they do fix the problem, do share what they did with us.

That is perfectly true but the purpose of these Forums set up by Norton was to work in parallel with the OnLine and other Support teams.

Very often we can sort out problems here and the user and others learn more that way than letting another PC take over control plus with remote control there is a considerable problem if a restart is called for and the connection is lost. We used to have frequent complaints about this since it often left the suffering PC unusable.

One more reason for trying to solve here is that we have the direct participation here in the forums of Norton Staff membrs who are directly involved in the programming and QC of the programs so not only do we get first hand guidance from those who built the structure but they get direct access to the problems of those using their work!

So it's very much a two way trade when we try to help within the forums.

As anyone can see if they stay around a while we are quick to hand off when we know that the OnLine Support are the people to go to ....

I have had a problem on one XP machine which crashed after update. However, my circumstances were a little different.. Perhaps you can check some things for me. Firstly, what is the source of the file you are using to install/reinstall NIS 2012?

I would like you to use the following www.norton.com/nis12 . Download and install this file.

Will it install without issue? Does the icon appear on reboot? Does the icon then disappear when you try to open the main GUI?

thanks
