Works only if Outlook 2013 plugin disabled

Recently upgraded PC to Windows 7 and MS Office 2013 (365) and immediately started having problems with Norton Internet Security 2013 e.g. error codes 3040,10180187 and 8504,104 and 3040,30187. ID safe Vault repeatedly saying restart needed and Norton tray icon disappearing. Also on checking running processes Norton did not appear to be running, I could not open any Norton feature and I suspect system was not protected. After many hours following self-help guidance, emails to Symantec, waiting for online chat support and them tweaking system settings via remote control the problems we still not fixed. After more hours searching the net I found a comment that someone had the same problems and they were able to stop all those problems by disabling the Norton AntiSpam plugin in Outlook 2013. I did so and guess what - you got it - no further problems - of course this means I cannot use Norton AntiSpam until the program is fixed.

I have just registered on this site hoping that my comments will be read by a Norton representative - does anyone know if that is the case?

Hi joejwall, yeah this sounds very familiar to an issue I am seeing as well (please see my thread http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Continued-Password-Vault-Issues-with-N360-v20-3-1-22/m-p/944811#M10349). I also found that after some period of time (or perhaps instances of opening Outlook 2013), N360 would become unresponsive, and eventually yield a pop-up error code as you mention below. I do not have the error code here with me at work, but 8504, 104 rings a bell. I also determined that on my specific configuration it consistently takes exactly four instances of opening Outlook 2013 for the "restart needed" symptom to occur. Instances prior to the fourth require me to (re)login to my identity vault, even though it was previously open.

Do my findings match what you are seeing?

Regards,

Gene

@joejwall, just wanted to let you know that your suggestion to disable the AntiSpam Plug-in served as a workaround to my issue. I'm hopeful that Symantec will resolve this quickly so that we can get back to using a useful capability, but for now I'll live without the add-in in favor of my Identity Vault. :smileywink:

I'm using Windows 8 and have been experiencing the same issue ... just disabled anti-spam in NIS 20.3.1.22. I, too, would rather give up the anti-spam feature than Identity Safe's vault. Hoping it works until it's permanently fixed.

For information I have spoken with a case manager about this and he assures me it is being taken up with the Norton development team

Any word on the status of this problem? It makes the Spam capability unusable, which is something I've learned to value over the years...

No update from Norton as yet. I will chase next week

Norton are officially acknowledging that the AntiSpam feature is not compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2013 and they are working on a fix which will be announced on the following page:
