Thank you for your response. What I don’t understand from your answer is 1.Why give the choice between a quick scan and a comprehensive scan if this is normal behaviour? 2.Is this really normal for a quick scan to be carried out when I ask for a comprehensive scan?3.Why it eventually does a comprehensive scan if I keep trying?
I notice that sometimes when I click to do a comprehensive scan,I only get a quick scan. This happens whether I do the scan from TASKS or from PC SECURITY.My laptop is Vista Home Premium,Norton 360 version 2.4.0.4. and I have done live updates. If I persist,it eventually carries out a comprehensive scan after a few tries. Can anyone help please?(UK based).Installed from a purchased disk a few weeks ago.
Hi learner44
When you click on 'Comprehensive Scan', indeed a full system scan should be included.
There may be a corruption in your N360 program, try running the Norton Removal Tool and reinstalling, then see if the issues persist.
Let us know, thanks.
- Thanks johna for your reply.I've done as you told me to.First scan I tried did a quick scan so I thought the fault was still there. However,I've done 3 scans since and they all went O.K.I'll keep doing scans for the next few days and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your help.
I’ve been running scans all week and unfortunately, the problem is still there.i.e.sometimes it is successful in doing a comprehensive scan, but just as often,it does a quick scan instead.Any more help would be welcome.

Maybe Norton is reconigzing files as safe and unmodified from the last scan and skips them to save time and processing power.
TechOutsider-Thank you for your response. The only thing is that I get a quick scan then when I try again a few seconds later,I get a comprehensive scan.
Delete all Symantec Related Files:
- All Users/Symantec Temp. Files
- All Users/Symantec
- All Users/Norton
- All Users/Norton Installer
- start>run>regedit>HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>delete "Norton" and "Symantec"
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>delete "Norton" and "Symantec"
Repeat steps 1-4 for all users on your computer. For Steps 5-6, make sure that you are on your local administrator account. Then:
- Run Norton Removal Tool.
- Boot in Safe Mode and run the Norton Removal Tool, again
- Install NIS09.

Opps I meant install N360 again.
Thanks for your reply.I'll try what you said and see what happens.

That is normal behavior. You do not need to worry, Norton will block all malware from being exeucuted.
